ECW seeks a qualified graphic designer who is available for a certain number of days between 14 April 2023 – 14 April 2026 to fill these ad hoc needs. The incumbent of this post will report to ECW's Communication Specialist and have the responsibility to support the production of compelling advocacy and communications assets and products through quality and creative design direction as well as graphic design execution and production in line with ECW's brand and target audiences’ information needs. This includes graphic design execution for both print and digital products, such as reports, advocacy briefs, social media and digital campaigns, microsites, etc.

OBJECTIVES AND TASKS:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Communications Specialist, the consultant will assist the ECW Secretariat in:

  1. Designing the flagship yearly ECW Annual Results Report under the guidance and in collaboration with the report’s team. This includes design direction, execution and revisions of the layout for print and digital formats of the full report (around 150 pages) as well as additional accompanying assets, such as the report’s executive summary, microsite, social media assets. The scope of work includes using datasets to design charts and ensure compelling data visualization and sourcing of relevant photos.
  2. Designing ECW’s new gender policy as well as ECW’s key new strategic reports and documents, including print and digital formats and accompanying social media assets.
  3. Creating innovative and compelling digital and print designs for ECW’s campaigns and global events.
  4. Provide expert advice and support to ECW on its Brand Guidelines, including updating ECW’s brand color palette and maintaining the brand guidelines brochure up to date.
  5. Supporting ECW’s ad hoc needs for creative and compelling graphic design, including advocacy briefs, brochures, infographics, social media cards promoting ECW strategic advocacy messages and showcasing ECW’s results.

Produce creative & compelling advocacy and communication assets and products:

  • ECW’s yearly annual results report is designed and delivered in digital & print formats; to include overall document creative direction, design execution, infographics and data charts as well as supporting assets.
  • ECW’s gender policy and additional strategic reports are designed and delivered in digital & print formats; to include overall documents’ design, infographics and social media assets.
  • Compelling print and digital assets are designed to support ECW’s global campaign and events.
  • The ECW brand guidelines is updated, including color palette updates.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • University degree in graphic design or comparable academic qualifications required;
  • At least 10 years of experience in graphic design creation and production;
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and producing compelling creative design for a wide range of advocacy and communications assets and products for various audiences;
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and producing quality graphic design for complex reports for the United Nations, multilateral organizations or international NGOs in the education sector, including data visualization, charts, and infographics;
  • Good understanding of Education Cannot Wait’s work;
  • Attention to details and good editorial judgment;
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
