You have:
- Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), HTML, and motion graphics/animation
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design, communications, or a related field
- Proven professional experience in graphic design, including print, web, social media, and infographics
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Ability to create engaging content for social media platforms
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of UNICEF’s work and familiarity with its programs
Contract
This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.
The onset of digital and social media and the increased necessity of external communication has led to a notable increase in infographics and visual material used to convey and disseminate information in an interesting, concise, and engaging form. Based in Pretoria, the UNICEF South Africa Country Office seeks a skilled individual to produce visual materials supporting the UNICEF’s mandate in South Africa. Priority areas include Partnerships and Fundraising, as well as Education, Health, Child Protection, Nutrition, Innovation, and Water and Sanitation.
Under the direct supervision of the Communication Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
Fundraising Visual Content Creation: • Create campaign visuals for donor acquisition and engagement across platforms; • Develop donor-focused infographics that visually communicate UNICEF’s impact; • Design presentations for fundraising pitches and donor meetings; • Design fundraising materials such as donor appreciation certificates, impact reports, and social media graphics.
General Communications Visual Support: • Design brochures, invitations, and reports to support UNICEF’s advocacy initiatives; • Create visual storytelling content that simplifies and showcases child rights issues; • Develop infographics for advocacy and awareness campaigns; • Design and develop branded merchandise, including T-shirts, caps, banners, and other promotional materials; • Ensure all designs maintain brand consistency and adhere to UNICEF’s ethical guidelines.
Social Media & Digital Engagement: • Create social media visuals optimized for engagement on platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn; • Support the development of visual content strategies for online fundraising and awareness campaigns; • Assist in producing multimedia assets to enhance digital engagement.
Production & Project Management • Manage multiple design projects, ensuring timely delivery and integration of feedback; • Organize and maintain design assets and templates for easy reuse across campaigns; • Participate in team discussions and brainstorming sessions to contribute creative ideas.
Expected Deliverables • Fundraising materials (social media graphics, donor reports, appreciation certificates); • Infographics for both fundraising and advocacy; • Brochures, invitations, and presentations supporting UNICEF’s work; • Social media content aligned with UNICEF’s digital engagement strategies; • Branded merchandise ensuring alignment with the organization's visual identity and marketing objectives.

• Knowledge of relevant computer software, internet navigation and various office applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat,
• Ability to use interactive digital media with thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), HTML, and motion graphics/animation,
• Relevant professional work experience in graphic design: Print, web, graphics for social media, infographics, large-format graphics and various other collateral materials, video a plus,
• Ability to draft ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in written and oral form,
• Proven ability to research, analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information,
• Strong planning and organizational skills,
• Proven ability to work as part of a team and familiarity with UNICEF programmes is a plus.
The candidate will be based in South Africa and will need to be familiar with the country's living and working context and have a conceptual understanding of UNICEF's work there.
UN Volunteers are entitled to the following benefits: • A Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): R 22926.08 per month; • A once-off entry lump sum of $400 at the start of the assignment; • Medical insurance, Life cover, and annual leave; • Access to all learning platforms; • A once-off exit lumpsum paid on completion of the contract
