This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

This United Nations Volunteers (UNV) assignment is part of UNEP’s project or flagship programming initiative, among others. The objective of this assignment is to play a vital role in supporting the visual communication and branding efforts of the design team.

a) Graphic Design: 1. Create visually appealing concepts and designs for various communication materials, including publications, brochures, posters, infographics, digital content, and other relevant materials. 2. Incorporate branding elements and ensure consistency in design across different platforms and mediums. 3. Collaborate with the project team to understand design requirements and target audience. 4. Provide creative input and suggestions to improve the visual impact of the organization's communication materials. 5. Deliver high-quality design files in the required formats. 6.Knowledge of print and digital design standards and best practices.

b) Layout: 1. Develop creative and innovative layout artworks such reports, newsletters, presentations, and other documents, as based on the project requirements and adherence brand guidelines. 2. Develop initial layout concepts based on provided content and design brief. 3. Ensure consistency in layout elements such as margins, spacing, and alignment. 4. Ensure consistency in fonts, colors, and formatting throughout the documents. 5. Collaborate with the content team to understand the content requirements and adapt the layout accordingly. 6. Deliver final documents in digital formats suitable for online distribution and printing. 7. Adhere to brand guidelines and design specifications. 8. Preparing designs for print production, including creating print-ready files and selecting appropriate printing techniques and materials.

Adobe Creative Suite especially Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. Familiarity with other digital design tools such as Figma is a plus. •Show a clear and mature style of design, demonstrating an understanding of the communication requirements of different INGO’s. •Proven experience of graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes and color management. •Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms. •Knowledge of standard software packages. •Working experience in development or humanitarian environment is desirable. •Sample of work in application would be welcome (please provide link to the sample under “Additional Information” section when completing the application). •Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks effectively. •Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in design work and adherence to brand guidelines.

The Republic of Kenya is an equatorial nation on the coast of East Africa, neighboring Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Indian Ocean. Kenya has two levels of Government; National Government and 47 sub-national Governments called Counties. Counties are further divided into sub-counties. Kenya is a multi-party state with Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. Kenya’s population of more than 40 million is growing at an annual rate of 2.2%. The country’s GNP per capita estimated at purchasing power parity (PPP) is $975, and the GNP is growing at an average rate of 0.1% annually. More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international poverty line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots and tubers.” (FAO).

Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and banking services and educational facilities are readily available. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up-country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN HABITAT and UNEP.

The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing security conditions at the place of assignment is modest. The topographic and climatic features of the assignment location is highland cool and warm tropical climate.
