Result of Service In order to more effectively use communication platforms, UNIC Windhoek needs to engage an individual consultant who can support the UNIC Windhoek office through graphic design to expand reach, engagement and visibility related to activities done by the UN in Namibia.

The purpose of this consultancy will be to specifically support the UNIC communications function about developing creative materials and design projects from concept to completion, which may include print, digital graphics and web design, figures, photography, and illustrations. The consultant will assure that each piece strengthens the reputation of the UN System in Namibia and reinforces institutional key messages internally and externally.

Work Location Windhoek

Expected duration 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities The incumbent individual contractor, under the direct supervision of the UNIC Windhoek Head of Office, provides graphic design support in creating digital communication products and other design services related to activities of the UNIC Windhoek Office, and is expected to:

1. Consult the UNIC Head of Office and Public Information Assistant to develop workplan, including articulating objectives, developing key messages, identifying the content and facts necessary to foster public knowledge around the activities of UNIC and UN Namibia. 2. Creates compelling and original concepts, designs and associated graphics for digital and social media content as well as other relevant promotional and communication materials. 3. Provides graphic and production expertise to the UNIC team whilst working collaboratively with other communications staff to produce high quality publications to strict deadlines. 4. Utilizes design techniques, tools and principles, and advanced layout and typography to articulate key messages in fresh, effective, and accessible ways. 5. Preparing communication design briefs for quality control of design elements through self-proofing and style guide adherence. 6. Serves as a knowledgeable brand guardian by having a strong understanding of look, feel, voice and overall brand presence across a variety of project types and media. 7. Provides consulting on brand, concept, purpose, audience, usage and distribution while creating, maintaining and supporting UN Namibia brand guidelines and templates. Leads the artistic development of the UN Namibia’s newsletter.

Qualifications/special skills Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or other relevant fields. Master’s degree is advantageous.

Experience - Minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible experience in graphic design in an international environment. - Excellent technical knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Professional, After Effects, Premiere). Working experience with Canva and Wochit beneficial. - Experience in video editing and production of multimedia content for the web and social media is desirable. - Experience with conceptualising multimedia content based on programme objectives, and executing it as part of a collaborative effort, is desirable. - Experience with developing accessible multimedia products, and knowledge of accessibility needs in multimedia communications, is desirable. - Knowledge of UN Namibia/UN System rules, regulations, procedures, and systems is considered an asset. - Knowledge of Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals and United Nations Partnership Framework (UNPAF 2019-2026) is an asset. - Must be able to work in a high-volume, changing environment on tight deadlines. - Minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible experience in graphic design in an international environment.

Languages Fluency in English is required (writing, speaking, and comprehension).
