Overview

Support communication activities by creating public information materials.

You have:

• High school diploma is required.
• A university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) or a specialized training in the field of Graphic design or related fields is desirable.
• At least 5 years of experience in graphic design (including web graphics) and advertising is required.
• Professional experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and other design software is required.
• Experience with user interface design and usability, as well as main design principles (color, layout, and typography) is required.
• Experience in photo and video production is also required.
• Fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of Italian is desirable.
• Knowledge of other UN languages is desirable.

Result of Service The individual contractor will support the communication activities of the EU CBRN CoE Initiative and the CONTACT Programme by providing assistance in the production of new public information material. In particular, the incumbent will support the production of new posters, fact sheets, videos, photos, graphic images/illustrations, raising-awareness campaigns, leaflets, newsletters, presentations, and new pages for the website about the Initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Background of the assignment:

United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in advancing justice, crime prevention, security and the rule of law in support of peace, human rights and sustainable development. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental, and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI' s goals are to:

1. advance understanding of crime-related problems;

2. foster just and efficient criminal justice systems;

3. support the respect of international instruments and other standards;

4. facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance.

UNICRI is contributing to the implementation of the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE Initiative). The Initiative involves 64 Partner Countries and is led by the European Commission’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI), in close coordination with the European External Action Service (EEAS). The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides technical support to Partner Countries, while UNICRI ensures a coherent and effective national, regional, and international cooperation.

The aim of the Initiative is to mitigate risks and strengthen an all-hazards security governance in Partner Countries. The Initiative involves a wide range of CBRN risk mitigation activities, including needs and risk assessments, national and regional action plans, capacity building activities, legal framework reviews, tabletop and real-time (including cross-border) field exercises, inter-regional exchange of best practices and lessons learnt.

In 2019, UNICRI launched the CONTACT Programme, aimed at building capabilities of law enforcement and intelligence officers to plan and carry out intelligence and law enforcement operations to thwart

radiological and nuclear (RN) trafficking attempts. Additionally, the initiative aims at fostering regional cooperation and exchange of information related to RN trafficking investigations in different regions. The CONTACT Programme is currently being implemented in the Middle East, in the Black Sea and in the Southeast Asia regions.

2. Purpose of the assignment:

The individual contractor will support the communication activities of the EU CBRN CoE Initiative and the CONTACT Programme by providing assistance in the production of new public information material.

In particular, the incumbent will support the production of new posters, fact sheets, videos, photos, graphic images/illustrations, raising-awareness campaigns, leaflets, newsletters, presentations, and new pages for the website about the Initiative.

3. Specific tasks to be performed by the individual contractor:

Under the direct supervision of the CBRN Programme Management Officer, and overall guidance of the Public Information Officer (Communications), in close coordination with the teams of UNICRI supporting the implementation of the EU CBRN CoE initiative and the CONTACT Programme, the individual contractor will carry out the following tasks:

· Draft the graphic content of information materials related to the Initiative.

· Generate graphic images/illustrations, photos, videos and interactive presentations.

· Convert conceptual design layouts into functional HTML code.

· Produce web pages incorporating photos, text and graphics.

· Design and prepare new publications, videos, raising-awareness campaigns, leaflets, newsletters, and presentations.

· Perform other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills High school diploma is required. A university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) or a specialized training in the field of Graphic design or related fields is desirable. At least 5 years of experience in graphic design (including web graphics) and advertising is required. Professional experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and other design software is required. Experience with user interface design and usability, as well as main design principles (color, layout, and typography) is required. Experience in photo and video production is also required.

Previous relevant professional experience within the United Nations System or similar large international organizations is desirable.

Languages Fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of Italian is desirable. Knowledge of other UN languages is desirable.

Additional Information This position is subject to local recruitment. Applicants for this position must be authorized to work in the designated country (Italy).
