Result of Service 1. The Greening the Blue report is launched in December 2022 with a coherent layout across the Report and its various supports (website, data tables, and 2 posters); 2. UNEP is ready to communicate effectively about the launch of the Greening the Blue report via power point presentations, brochures and co-related Greening the Blue items; 3. The UNEP New York office publications and communications products have a coherent lay out.

Expected duration The assignment is from 20 August 2022 to 28 February 2023. The consultancy and the payments will be made based on deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. Good communication and exchange of best practices is a key aspect in the Sustainable UN project and a specific Output of the Sustainable UN project. The main tool for SUN to deliver this is the Greening the Blue campaign: www.greeningtheblue.org (GtB). In this context, the Sustainable UN team needs to secure lay out and graphic design services to issue the 2022 edition of the Greening the Blue report to be launched in early December 2022. At the same time the New York office needs a graphic designer able to transform complex information in the area of Sustainability Strategy Phase II, Extractives, Plastics and other areas and present such information in an acceptable and communicative format appealing to stakeholders in the context of the intergovernmental and interagency work of the New York Office. The UNEP New York office currently does not have the relevant expertise in house, to carry out the required tasks and needs an external consultant.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Director of the New York Office and the direct supervision of the Interagency Affairs Senior Programme Officer, the consultant will undertake the following responsibilities:

a. Meet regularly with the SUN team to contribute to the preparation of the relevant outputs from a design perspective; b. Analyse the existing Greening the Blue communications style and branding guidance; c. Execute Layout of the Greening the Blue report (including graphs and charts, plus 3-5 tables with data, to display data based on excel sheets provided by the SUN team). 5 iterations for the Final layout are expected (output 1); d. Execute design of the Greening the Blue collaterals (output 1) following directions from the SUN team and the report design concept agreed; e. Design a 20 slides Powerpoint with infographics presenting the information contained in Greening the Blue, its development process and quantitative data (output 2); f. Following instructions provided, develop supports necessary to communicate on areas of work of the UNEP New York office (output 3); g. Source real-life (free of charge to UNEP) photography (and other visuals) if necessary h. Provide Full Package containing all final Greening the Blue Report 2022 materials (output 1-2) and New York office communication materials (Output 3)

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in graphic design or communications or other visual art degree with a combination of relevant experience. Experience: - A minimum of 5 years' experience in graphic design. Experience in creating design content in formats accessible for web platforms; Experience in UX Design, digital publications and creation of interactive PDF documents is preferred; - Proven experience to synthesize complex information and present it in a user-friendly and visually appealing format is required. A presentation of the candidates’ portfolio will be requested upon interviews. - Experience with working with quantitative information/data. Data visualization, especially to support data storytelling is an advantage; - Experience creating designs that work well both for web and for hardcopy printing is a major asset. - Knowledge of the UN system and culture and familiarity with the UN interagency networks is desired but not essential. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy position fluency in English is required.

Additional Information Key competencies: - Ability to follow directions and use personal judgement in delivery of relevant products by deadlines agreed upon; The candidate should have the ability to deliver outputs and work under pressure; - Ability to find creative solutions to delivering via visuals (graphs, images, icons) complex information in a simple format; - Proven interpersonal and communication skills. Exposure to cross cultural and multi-ethnic working environment; - Knowledge of the UN system and culture and familiarity with the UN interagency networks is desired but not essential.
