Graphic Design: Support for women journalists in Somali
Contract
This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.
In 2021 UNDP’s Somali Women Media Project (SWoMP), created the country’s first all-women media team – Bilan Media – and continues to provide them with support to challenge adverse gender norms, open new opportunities for women in professional roles and bring new subjects to public debate. In addition, the project supports other women journalists in the Federal Member States as well as advocating more generally for women journalists’ workplace rights and against online harassment.
In support of these efforts, UNDP seeks to engage a graphic designer to train women journalists on graphic design and create materials to promote the reporting of women journalists, the project’s results and better workplace treatment for women.
Under the overall authority of the SWoMP Project Manager, the Online Volunteer will provide:
Weekly training on graphic design using Canva and other online tools for Bilan media journalists and SWoMP project team members, with a focus on producing materials to complement and promote Bilan’s reporting, including data visualisation (training schedule to be worked out after discussion with project and trainees)
Ad-hoc guidance to Bilan journalists and project team members on graphic design
Creation of templates to promote Bilan Media’s reporting, such as quote cards for interviewees, adverts for upcoming talk-shows etc, in line with Bilan’s existing branding
Creation of promotional materials for Bilan media and the SWoMP project annual report and promotional and funding pitches, or as required.
Creation of advocacy materials calling for better workplace treatment of women in Somalia
Candidates should have professional experience in graphic design and use of online design tools, including Canva, as well as good verbal and written communication skills.
Previous experience in training and a degree in graphic design or related field is considered an asset
