The UNFPA Somalia CO is preparing its 2026 Humanitarian Brochure, a flagship communication and resource-mobilization product that will present the ageny’s humanitarian priorities, funding requirements, and life-saving interventions in SRH, GBV prevention and response, adolescent and youth programming, and protection.

The brochure will be used to engage humanitarian donors, government counterparts, UN agencies, and partners in the context of shrinking global humanitarian funding and ongoing system-wide humanitarian reset and reform processes. The Humanitarian Unit is therefore seeking an online volunteer to provide technical support in consolidating content, visual design, and layout to ensure a professional, compelling, and donor-ready product.

Under the supervision of the Humanitarian Programme Coordinator and in close collaboration with the Humanitarian Unit and Communications focal points, the Online Volunteer will support the development of the 2026 Humanitarian Brochure by: Supporting the organization and structuring of draft content provided by the Humanitarian Unit (humanitarian context, needs overview, response strategy, results, funding requirements, and geographic coverage).

We are looking for 1 online volunteer who has experience in research with excellent writing skills. The task will include the following responsibilities:

• Editing and proofreading text for clarity, consistency, and coherence while maintaining UNFPA corporate tone and terminology. • Ensuring key humanitarian messages on SRH, GBV, adolescents and youth, and protection are clearly and accurately reflected. • Designing the brochure layout in line with UNFPA branding guidelines (colors, typography, visual style). • Integrating text, charts, maps, photos, and infographics into a visually compelling and accessible format. • Proposing creative visual elements (icons, section dividers, call-out boxes, data highlights) to improve readability and donor appeal. • Supporting the transformation of key statistics, funding requirements, geographic coverage, and results into simple infographics and visual summaries. • Ensuring figures and charts are clear, accurate, and aligned with data provided by the Humanitarian Unit. • Supporting the organization and structuring of draft content provided by the Humanitarian Unit (humanitarian context, needs overview, response strategy, results, funding requirements, and geographic coverage).

The average estimated workload is expected to include roughly reviewing 5-7 documents (these can include scientific articles, studies etc.) over the course of the assignment duration.

The Online Volunteer/s will have the opportunity to build connections with the Gender Focal Point at United Nations Volunteers and learn about how research on Gender Inclusive Language can support inclusive communication within the Unite Nations System. There will be one expert per language.

Candidates should have professional experience in graphic design with previous experience in designing document layouts, and must have in-depth knowledge of graphic design applications, as well as good verbal and written communication skills. A degree in graphic design or related field is considered an asset.
