BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. We are the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impact of climate change. We are currently seeking to fill a Junior Consultant position under the Public Partnerships and Resourcing Division (PPR) based in London, UK. The position will be based at our office in London, United Kingdom. The purpose of the assignment is (i) to prepare analysis and research on thematic funding opportunities that support and strengthen WFP’s outreach to new partners (ii) collaborate and support the work of the Research Consortium for School Health and Nutrition to promote quality research on the health, nutrition, well-being, education and development of school-age children and adolescents. (iii) manage a UK-based collaborative and interactive online platform on school health and nutrition (iv) prepare background documents and briefs to help coordinate the London Office's outreach to partners.

ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Expand and maintain knowledge base on UK politics as it relates to WFP’s work. Prepare key updates on UK politics and follow-up on collective actions from briefings

2. Support the collaboration with the School Health Research Consortium by preparing internal documents, and scoping and profiling new partners

3. Set up and manage an interactive UK-based platform on school health and nutrition

4. In collaboration with the WFP School Feeding Division (SBP), Research Consortium on School Health and Nutrition and the International Parliamentary Network for Education (IPNEd) co-develop a written toolkit and an potentially an online course for Parliamentarians on setting up school meals systemDraft an engagement strategy for 2021/22 on thematic funding streams (Climate Change, School feeding and Nutrition)

5. Help coordinate the ongoing outreach to partners

6. Support in the organization of advocacy events.

7. Set up individual meetings with partners and prepare background notes/briefings

8. Provide weekly updates on main UK aid related issues to PPR colleagues.

9. Perform other duties as required.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

-Analysis of information available in salesforce on thematic funding and uploading of Critical Corporate Initiave products in coordination with WFP UK and the Salesforce team

- Monitor updates of thematic donor intelligence in Salesforce [monthly and ad hoc in coordination with WFP UK and Salesforce team]

- UK-based online platform on school health and nutrition set up and knowledge management and dissemination of resources ongoing

- Support provided to two large advocacy and fundraising events 2 on specific WFP operations

- Written toolkit to Parliamentarians developed (and possibly an online course) together with IPNEd and the Research Consortium

- Assistance to the formulation of strategic analysis and documents and presentations as required

- Assistance in coordinating with PD thematic units, RBs and COs ongoing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, Marketing Communications or other relevant field.

Experience:

Experience in international development cooperation and public partnerships desirable

Knowledge and Skills:

Excellent planning, management and coordination skills. Strong Analytical and Writing Skills. Ability to work independently towards challenging targets and strict deadlines. Strong research and writing skills. Ability to work in a multi-cultural and dynamic environment. Understanding of UK aid programs, policies and practice, and the politics that surround intrenational development in the UK. Experience in organizing advocacy events. Familiarity with school feeding programmes is desirable and knowledge of the UK school food sector including some basic experience of working with Research Consortium on School Health and Nutrition.

Languages:

Full fluency in English language
