GOVERNMENT ENGAGEMENT LEAD – JAPAN

The World Economic Forum, committed to improving the state of the world, is the international organization for public-private cooperation.

The Forum engages the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas. Similarly, the Forum in Japan integrates the foremost government, business, civil society and academic leaders from Japan into World Economic Forum activities and communities.

The Forum is expanding its presence in Japan to accelerate the Forum’s impact in Japan through community development, relationship management, knowledge networks, regional business council activities and special projects.

As part of the Centre for Regions, Trade and Geopolitics (CRTG), the Government Engagement Lead will drive efforts to engage and partner with the national government in Japan as well as organizing and delivering innovative project workshops and country roundtables in Japan. He / she will report directly to the Chief Representative Officer of Forum Japan. This position is based in the Forum’s office in Tokyo as well as most of the Japan team.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment; develop the team’s ability to excel and rapidly adapt to changing realities • Develop, maintain and deepen relationships with Japan, engaging relevant government constituents in Forum initiatives, projects and events to ensure the greatest impact for the Japan government • Build relationships with representatives of other non-business stakeholders in Japan including academia and thinktank and effectively engage them in Forum communities • Collaborate with the Forum’s industry, regional and systems initiative teams to co-develop and manage public-private partnerships with state and federal government in Japan • Develop and manage country-level and national transformation meetings including programme development, participation of relevant leaders, coordination with the government and budget management that effectively engage constituents on the most relevant regional issues.

Qualifications and Skills

• Broad intellectual background with a Master’s degree (or equivalent) degree in political science, international relations, economics or international business • At least 15 years of professional experience gained working in or with Japan Government including recent experience gained working for the Japan Government or Parliament. • Deep networks with governments and successful experience in engaging global leaders from the public sector • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, excellence in the fields of public policy, geopolitics, business, culture and a proven interest in global affairs • Experience building and cultivating public-private partnerships • Comfort driving entrepreneurial projects, navigating ambiguity, and being a self-starter • Outstanding verbal and written language skills in Japanese and English; verbal proficiency in other languages would be an asset • Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal and network-building skills
