A five-year Country Strategic Plan (CSP 2018-2022) developed in consultation with the Government and other stakeholders and informed by contextual, gender and gap analyses, and recommendations from the 2017 National Strategic Review of Food Security and Nutrition towards Zero Hunger, frames WFP’s engagement in supporting Sri Lanka’s national development vision.

The WFP Sri Lanka Country Strategic Plan 2018 – 2022 aims to support and facilitate vulnerable communities strengthen their livelihoods and resilience in the face of shocks and stresses all year round. This aims to improve food security and nutrition by empowering vulnerable communities and individuals to cope with shocks. It also assists in resettling IDPs and returning refugees with durable solutions for food assistance and livelihood support and strengthens government capacity through technical support to ensure that gender-informed risk-sensitive planning is integrated into public investment policies and local development initiatives, redressing structural and socio-cultural inequalities.

Also, WDP aims to support and facilitate multi-sector approaches to nutrition and food security through both nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programming, including supporting the government to scale up its rice fortification effort, promoting positive nutrition practices, as well integrating nutrition lens within the WFP assisted School Meal Programme and resilience building programmes.

The UN Volunteer will be contributing to the above activities on-going within WFP Sri Lanka.

Under the direct supervision of the Nutritionist (Head of Nutrition unit), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Keep track of developments in Global School Meal Coalition, Sri Lanka’s commitments and progress towards fulfilling the commitments • Assist Head of Nutrition, WFP Country Office for Sri Lanka to develop action plans with the Ministry of Education and State Ministry of Education Services to fulfil Sri Lanka’s commitments and deliverables towards the Global School Meal Coalition • Liaise with the Ministry of Education and State Ministry of Educational Services to obtain necessary information and follow up progress • Support the Education officials to prepare country presentations and effectively participate in the meetings, conferences or workshops of school meal coalition that may be held from time to time • Support the Head of Nutrition, WFP Country Office for Sri Lanka to coordinate with the Rome-based WFP Head Quarters on the matters related to the Global School Meal Coali-tion • Liaise with the foreign missions in Sri Lanka who are involved in the Global School Meal Coalition • Support Nutrition and School Meal Programme team to develop funding proposals, visibil-ity material, content for communication material and monitoring and evaluation plans

School feeding programmes and including nutrition sensitive component in school meal. Background knowledge on social impact on school meal programme at the global settings. Previous experience in coordinating with national and international stakeholders including government counterparts, UN agencies, and INGOs on joint efforts for establishing humanitarian assistance platforms is preferred. (specially in a developing country context ).

Colombo (the commercial capital and largest city of Sri Lanka) is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to the administrative capital, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kotte. The climate is fairly temperate all throughout the year, but humidity is usually high. From March to April the temperature averages around 31.8 degrees Celsius. The only major change in the Colombo weather occurs during the monsoon seasons from May to August and October to January when heavy rainfalls occur.
