The Position:

The position of Global Humanitarian Sexual and Reproductive Health Adviser/Contraception, SAC and CMR-IPV (CSC) is limited to 2 years. The incumbent will pilot specific projects to improve access to contraceptive and family planning services, safe abortion care (SAC) and clinical management of rape (CMR) and intimate partner violence (IPV). Improved access will give particular attention to addressing barriers that may prevent people with specific and potentially intersecting vulnerabilities including adolescence, LGBTIQ+ and those who sell or exchange sex, from accessing these services. Lessons learned will be disseminated and resource mobilization engaged to allow furthering efforts.

You will report directly to the Head of the Response Technical Support Unit (RTSU) in the Humanitarian Office, Geneva

Job Purpose:

The Global Sexual and Reproductive Adviser/CSC will identify opportunities, seek partnerships for the development of innovative approaches and support implementation through pilot projects to improve access to contraceptive and family planning services, safe abortion care and clinical management of rape and intimate partner violence in humanitarian settings.

The incumbent will work with the roving SRHiE and GBViE specialists and humanitarian adviser at regional level and the Global CMR specialist as well as with SRH and GBV specialists and humanitarian advisers in priority countries where work is proposed.

While the position has a global scope, projects and efforts will be piloted in the South and Eastern Africa Region. Learnings will be used as catalyst for interventions in other regions.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

Advanced university degree in health with clinical qualifications or a Master’s degree in Public Health or related discipline.

Knowledge and Experience:

• 10 years professional experience managing health programs.

• Extensive experience in contraceptive and family planning services, safe abortion care and clinical management of rape and intimate partner violence in humanitarian settings

• Understanding of the specific and potentially intersecting vulnerabilities including adolescence, LGBTIQ+ and those who sell or exchange sex, from accessing these services and related implications for access to health care and GBV services.

• Experience managing health teams with the ability to motivate and encourage staff.

• Experience in training and capacity building.

• Excellent ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment in areas in which UNFPA works.

• Experience leading initiatives, creating, and maintaining networks, and liaising with key stakeholders including donors as relevant.

• Experience in resource mobilization

• Program development and management experience with working with different donors funded grants.

• Good ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with local health representative.

• Ability to work independently and also as a collaborative team member in complex and often difficult operating environments.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, tasks efficiently with strong attention to detail.

Languages:

Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is desirable.
