Background Information - Job-specific

As part of the UN Security Management System (UNSMS), the UNOPS global corporate security team works to enable the conduct of UNOPS activities while ensuring the security of UNOPS personnel globally.

The Security Intern will be reporting to the UNOPS Chief of Security (CoS), supporting a variety of tasks and projects related to security information, communications and data collection, collation and analysis, to increase security awareness among UNOPS personnel globally.

The internship is expected to start in September 2023 for a duration of 6 months (with a possibility of extension, subject to satisfactory performance and available funds)

Functional Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may comprise, but are not limited to the following: - Provide direct coordination and support to the development of outputs for the security communications strategy for UNOPS; - Support the development of security communications products and activities (UNOPS Security webpage, content creation, presentations, visual materials etc.); - Liaise and coordinate with the Inter-Agency Security Management Network (IASMN) Strategic Communications Working Group; - Liaise and coordinate with the UN Department of Safety and Security and UNSMS partners specializing in security information, communications and data collection, collation and analysis; - Support the development of communication campaigns, establishing cohesive and coordinated channels of communication to reach and influence key audiences;

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: - University studies in the field of security risk management, criminal justice systems, security information management, analysis, international relations or media/communications is desirable, although not essential. - Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); - Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); - Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation, or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Experience: While no prior work experience is required, background in the field of security, international relations, analysis or media/communications is desirable. The successful applicant should not have more than 3 years of post-graduate work experience.

Language requirement: - Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required; - Working knowledge of another UN language, preferably French or Spanish, is an advantage.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend (currently USD 1631 in Copenhagen) from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 300, 500 or 800 USD (depending on the location at the moment of being selected for the position). However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
