Result of Service

The outputs expected from the National Individual Contractor (IC-5) Geospatial Information Assistant are: • Data Collection and Acquisition: Geospatial data timely gathered from various sources such as satellites, aerial imagery, GPS Devices, or existing databases; Accuracy and relevance of collected data by verifying sources and conducting quality checks. • Data Processing and Analysis: Spatial analysis performed to extract meaningful insights or patters from data; Maps, charts, and other visualizations generated to communicate analysis results effectively. • Data Base Management: Geospatial databases organized and maintained, ensuring data integrity and accessibility. • Technical Support/Training: Technical support and training provided to members or end-users on geospatial data/tools and applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Based on the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC) guidelines and the supervisor's indications, the National Individual Contractor will perform the following duties: • Assists with preparing geospatial data sets analysis products and reports; responds to queries and maintains/updates web pages. • Assists in the development of Analytics websites and Hubs; • Assists with geospatial data acquisition and data cleansing: Collects, processes, and evaluates geospatial data; Integrates, analyses, and interprets geospatial data and remotely sensed imagery; • Assists in maintaining geospatial databases with data collection efforts, creates statistics, and generates a Geographic Information Management system by structuring spatial data; • Assists with identifying patterns in geospatial data using standard techniques and process improvement mechanisms; • Participates in the development of geographic information systems, databases, and applications, as well as in the necessary collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of geospatial data; • Assists with process improvement mechanisms; • Assists in the preparation of cartographic maps; • Assists in maintaining geospatial databases, with data collection efforts, and creating statistics; • Assists with the identification of patterns in geospatial data using standard techniques; • Assists with the preparation of geospatial data sets and responds to queries; • Assists with the maintenance and updating of web pages; • Assists to prepare administrative arrangements for correspondence and training requests; • Pilots UAV drones to carry out camp, site, territory surveys and cartography mapping; • Performs other duties as required by the supervisor.

Qualifications/special skills

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. - Technical qualification in Geospatial Sciences (Cartography, Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and equivalent) involving geospatial information and image processing programs is required. - Knowledge of the newly established RAC 100 by the CAA is required. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in geospatial information, analysis, mapping, data visualization, information management or related area is required. Work experience in the United Nations or international organizations is desirable. A valid UAS Pilot license approved by the Colombian Aviation Authority (CAA) is required. Certificates in GIS, geography, cartography, image processing, and geospatial skills are desirable. Certification of a minimum of 50 hours of UAV drone flight is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written Spanish is required, and working knowledge of English is desirable. NOTE: Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four regions.
