Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in Goma, in the Field Technology Section (FTS) of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO). The Geographic Information Systems Assistant will report to the Associate Geographic Information Systems Officer.

Responsibilities Under supervision of the Geospatial Information Officer, the Geographic Information Assistant is responsible of the following duties:

(1) Technical work on geospatial information service: Geospatial data management. Collects, processes, edit and updates all datasets using proprietary software such as ArcGIS, survey 123 and open source tools such as SMASH and QField. Archives mission geospatial data and products. Assists to conduct terrain analysis studies and prediction of the effects of terrain, weather and situation on the mission's operations. Assists in the quality control of all geographic information datasets prepared from GIS field offices and HQ office. Produces customized geo-products required by senior mission leadership.

(2) Administrative work covering correspondence and other communication: Reviews outgoing correspondence for format, style and grammatical accuracy. Coordinates the creation and updating of datasets required for GIS services to run effectively. Provides inputs for geographic information systems (GIS) online services. Supports the maintenance of GIS databases and web applications such as GIS digital map library, Digital Globe platform and the Force Common Operating Picture (FCOP). Prepares and conduct GIS related trainings on Database management. Advises staff on administrative procedures and maintains up-to-date office. Monitors staff.

(3) Performs other functions that may be assigned by the Chief Geospatial Information Officer.

Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; asks questions to clarify and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; tailors' language, tone, style and format to match audience; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.

Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience At least eight (6) years of progressively responsible experience in geospatial information (geospatial information systems integration, geospatial/terrain analysis, image processing, mapping, GPS, geospatial related information technology, etc.) and its related work is required.

Practical experience with database management systems such as MS Sql Server, PostgreSQL, SQLite, etc. is required.

Practical experience in carrying out Database administration related tasks such as versioning workflows, setting up replicas, configuring user permissions, etc. is required.

Proven ability to design data collection forms using proprietary software such as ArcGIS survey 123, and open source tools such as KoBo Toolbox, SMASH and QField, is required

Field experience in database management using Common Operational Geospatial Information (COGI) and the Mission's Operational Geospatial Information (MOGI) COGI/MOGI schemas is required.

Experience in preparing and delivering database management training with ArcGIS Pro to office colleagues is desirable

Practical experience in ArcGIS Pro for geospatial data processing and analysis as well as image processing and management software such as ERDAS Imagine, Pix4D, Drone2Map, etc. is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of French is desirable.
