Result of Service - Increased access, use, interpretation and analysis of RICCAR outputs and datasets to support climate change analysis, and delivered training and technical assistance on the use of these outputs to internal and external counterparts.

Duties and Responsibilities Under the umbrella of the Arab Centre for Climate Change Policies nested in the Climate Change and Natural Resource Sustainability Cluster at ESCWA, the consultant would:

  • Contribute to the preparation of climate change analysis and reports drawing upon regional climate modelling, hydrological modelling and vulnerability assessment outputs, including the extraction of related datasets;
  • Prepare datasets, maps and analysis in response to requests received from internal and external counterparts;
  • Develop and deliver training materials on the use and application of geospatial tools to conduct climate change analysis;
  • Support the visualization and dissemination of technical materials and regional datasets on the RICCAR Regional Knowledge Hub.

    Qualifications/special skills Skills: Previous experience using NetCDF files is desirable. Skills Experience processing geospatial data related to water resources and climate change in the Arab region is an advantage. Skills Proficiency using ArcGIS 10 is desirable. Academic Qualifications: A master's degree in water resources management, climate change, engineering or environmental sciences is required. A Ph.D. is preferred. Training in the use of geographic information systems (GIS) is desirable. Experience: A minimum of five years of experience using geographic information systems (ArcMap or QGIS) and database management application related to climate change is required. Language: Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French and/or Arabic is an advantage.

    Additional Information The Geographic Information System (GIS) Expert on Climate Change Analysis would facilitate access, use, interpretation and analysis of the RICCAR outputs and datasets, and provide training and technical assistance on the use of these outputs to internal and external counterparts.
