- Working knowledge of local languages Arabic and/or Hebrew is desirable.
Contract

Org. Setting and Reporting
UNTSO was the first peacekeeping operation established by the Security Council, in its resolution 50 (1949), and continues to represent the commitment of the Council to assist in the implementation of the 1949 Armistice Agreements and their attendant ceasefires. In its resolution 73 (1949), the Council requested the Secretary-General to arrange for the continued service of such UNTSO personnel as might be required in observing and maintaining the ceasefire, as requested by the Council in its resolution 54 (1948), and as might be necessary in assisting the parties to the Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. UNTSO is mandated to observe and maintain the unconditional ceasefires and assist the parties to the 1949 Armistice Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. Its mandate derives from Security Council resolutions and decisions, including foundational resolutions 50 (1948), 54 (1948), and 73 (1949). UNTSO ’s activities are spread over Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic to maintain the regional liaison architecture established under the Armistice Agreements. This position is located in the Transport Unit at UNTSO Headquarters, Jerusalem.
The Generator Mechanic at this level reports to the Transport Units Workshop Manager or to the Chief of Section/Unit and is responsible for various engineering and transport services related to generator and vehicle mechanic services in the mission.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
- Carries out installations on small and large capacity generator sets and related equipment.
- Carries out scheduled and routine maintenance, emergency repairs and overhaul of generators (static/mobile), including the installation of auxiliary fuel systems, such as tanks, transfer pumps and pit works.
- Responsible for installing and maintaining generator sets and related equipment within mission.
- Carries out routine vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Responsible for the safe and efficient use of tools and specialized equipment.
- Assists with carrying out scheduled periodic and emergency maintenance services on all the installations and equipment.
- Responsible for applying engineering and transport standards and practices in the installation and maintenance of generators and vehicles.
- Ensures the modifications to diesel generator systems, including installation of pre-heaters; battery chargers; fuel systems and other related diesel parts.
- Makes wiring modifications to diesel control circuits and electrical apparatus specific to the diesel standby system.
- Investigates, determines sources of problems, troubleshoots and repairs generators and vehicle systems. .
- Performs preventive maintenance including checking for leaks, worn parts, taking oil samples; orders and installs replacement parts; adjusts, calibrates, and inspects the operation of generators and vehicle systems.
- Prepares records of repairs, maintenance, parts ordered, and parts used.
- Transports equipment, tools, and fluids to and from work sites; operates and maintains equipment, tools and safety devices which are designed to lift, move, transport, repair, inspect, measure or protect.
