Result of Service She Stands for Peace - Book

Work Location Ethiopia

Expected duration 5 months

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) was established by UN General Assembly Resolution 64/288 in 2010. The integrated Office has three core aims: i) Enhance the partnership between the United Nations and the African Union in the area of peace and security; ii) Provide coordinated and consistent United Nations advice to the African Union on long-term capacity-building and short-term operational support matters; iii) Streamline the United Nations presence in Addis Ababa to make it cost-effective and efficient in delivering UN assistance to the AU. In February 2020, the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) and the African Union Commission (AUC) jointly published a commemorative book, titled ‘She Stands for Peace’, which paid tribute to twenty African women and women’s organizations who had made outstanding contributions to peace and security on the continent. The publication of the commemorative book has provided opportunity to the women featured in the book to share their stories and experiences to other women and stakeholders. During this initiative it was identified that one common problem faced by women in peace and security, is the lack and recognition for and publication of their contributions. The second edition of the She Stands for Peace e-book has also been published in September 2022. To continue to acknowledge and publicize the success stories of women and women’s organizations who make contributions in conflict prevention and peacebuilding in Africa, the United Nations Of-fice to the African Union (UNOAU) and African Union Commission would like to hire a consult-ant to undertake the documentation of stories and experiences gained by women using their own voices while advancing peace and security efforts in Africa.
