This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

UN Women is therefore responsible for coordinating interventions and forging more effective and efficient strategic partnerships within the United Nations system and Governments with regard to gender equality and the empowerment of women, so that this organization make efforts to achieve coherent and coordinated investment in gender equality and the empowerment of women; which concretely promotes the exercise of responsibilities and commitments in terms of gender equality. UN Women should also create new or strengthened partnerships with other development partners, women's organizations and networks, other civil society organizations, academia, the media and the private sector. These partnerships support UN-Women’s work for the inclusion of gender issues in all sectors of development. In this context, UN Women chairs the consultation framework Framework for Consultation between the Ministry for the Promotion of Women and the Protection of the Child and the Technical and Financial Partners (CC-MPFPE / PTF) for questions of kind. Building on this UN Women mandate and on the fact that in Niger, the United Nations System operates on the "United in Action" modality in the spirit of the reform of the United Nations system, UN Women is interested has staff with expertise in gender equality and women's empowerment. Under the supervision of the UN Women Representative concerned will provide technical support for coordination and strategic partnerships and capacity building on gender issues within the United Nations System, the Government and other partners

Under the direct supervision of UN Women Country representative , the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: Support Inter-agency Coordination • Support UN Women in the Coordination of interventions of the United Nations System, in particular the United Nations Sustainable development cooperation framework (UNSDCF), in the field of Gender in Niger; • Support the coordination of the activities of the Consultation Framework between the Ministry for the Promotion of Women and the Protection of the Child and the Technical and Financial Partners (CC-MPFPE / PTF) for gender issues; • Coordinate joint activities relating to gender commemorative days; • Support the implementation and gender monitoring within the UNS through the gender monitoring of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNSDCF); • Coordinate the United Nations Gender Thematic Group (UNGTG); • Prepare regular progress reports on the results of UN Women programs as part of the inter-agency coordination.

II. Strategic planning and operational programming • Participate in the development and monitoring of the implementation of joint programs and work plans on gender; • Contribute to the development of a joint United Nations System support plan for the Ministry in charge of gender by ensuring the consistency and non-duplication of the interventions of the various agencies and development partners that support the Government of Niger in the field of gender; • Participate in the various UNSDCF groups to give greater visibility to the gender actions of United Nations agencies; • Support the process of formulating joint programs in the field of gender equality; • Support the gender score card process; • Support the process of formulating the gender strategy on a UN Gender team; • Produce and distribute the various minutes of the meetings

III. Support for Capacity Building and Knowledge Management • Coordinate and participate in the process of identifying training needs of United Nations agencies; • Support the implementation of training activities of the UNGTG action plan; • Make available to UNGTG members the various publications in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment; • Facilitate the information exchange platform and document good practices in gender equality and women's empowerment within the United Nations System; • Prepare and present technical notes for the analysis of the implementation of planned joint activities and document good practices and lessons learned; • Facilitate exchange platforms with other players (Universities, experts, private sector, etc.).

IV. Establishment of strategic partnership on gender equality and women's empowerment • Support the development and implementation of the partnership plan, mobilization of resources for the UN Women strategic note; • Establish strategic partnerships with the Government, civil society and donors intervening in the field of gender equality and the empowerment of women; • Coordinate the implementation of joint programs on Gender and the empowerment of women at the United Nations and support the mobilization of resources; • Prepare and participate in the UNSDCF management group; • Support UN women's resource mobilization initiatives; • Participate in setting annual resource mobilization objectives; • Liaise with advocacy partners and initiate contacts with civil society organizations, government and other groups to ensure that relevant information reaches the public and donors; • Initiate and maintain UN Women support groups among donors and lead in this context at least one round table of donors per year ; • Establish and maintain partnerships with private sector donors.

• At least 3 years of experience; • At least 2 years of professional experience in the planning and implementation of projects / programs in the field of gender; • Having professional experience in the field of communication and knowledge manage-ment and working within the United Nations System in Niger is an asset; • Have a good knowledge of the strategic orientations in terms of gender equality and the empowerment of women. • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volun-teer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

Niamey is a duty station with family. In view of recent terrorist attacks and inter-community conflicts, it is imperative that all UN Volunteers familiarize themselves with the security guidelines and the situation upon arrival in the country.

The UNV Support Unit at UNDP may book temporary accommodation at the expense of the UN Volunteer which may or may not be extended at the Volunteer's discretion until permanent accommodation is found. Alternatively, UNVs could opt to co-rent and share accommodation, which must comply with UN Residential Security Standards (MORSS).

United Nations Volunteers should be aware that they are exposed to a number of tropical diseases. Vaccination against yellow fever is compulsory to enter Niger. The other compulsory vaccinations are hepatitis A, B, tetanus. All United Nations Volunteers have 24 hour access to a medical services clinic.

Niger has a hot and dry climate with a long dry season. It is therefore advisable to bring light clothing.

Various mobile phone companies operate in Niger. SIM cards are available at the airport or in shopping malls.
