The Gender and Adolescent team in the UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) is responsible for the implementation of the GAP in the region. The EAPRO Gender and Adolescent section is seeking an International UN Volunteer (Gender Specialist) to support the rollout of the development, execution and monitoring of its strategic field-oriented guidance, tools and initiatives and in support of implementation of the Gender Action Plan (GAP) 2022-2025 across country offices in the region. Using excellent research, analytical, management, and communication skills, the international UNV support the EAPRO Regional Gender and Advisor and Gender and Adolescent section and its regional network to undertake the specific tasks outlined below.

Under the direct supervision of UNICEF EAPRO Regional Gender and Advisor, the international UN Volunteer is primarily a technical and programmatic role and will undertake the following tasks:  Support country offices in conducting comprehensive gender analysis/ integrating gender as part of ongoing programmes across sectors (Education, Health, Nutrition and Social Protection) and develop gender briefs for country offices in the region  Support countries and sectors to plan and implement evidence-based advocacy for the implementation of the Gender Action Plan  Work closely with sectoral regional advisors and specialists to integrate gender equality analysis and recommendations into programmatic and policy action, including joint re-source mobilization, partnership outreach and management especially girl-led and women’s organizations, national policy and planning, and annual work-planning.  Track and quality assure GAP institutional standards and quality assure annual reporting, advising management on response to CO gaps.  Facilitate access to appropriate training for sectoral and office-wide capacity on gender analysis, programme integration, delivery and monitoring of GAP priorities.  Facilitate gender-related knowledge management across country offices including the documentation and dissemination of promising practices  Assist with planning and rollout of interactive webinars to share lessons and good practices thereby building regional, national, and subnational capacities

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/Expected Outputs: As an active UNICEF EAPRO Gender and Adolescent team member, the UNV will provide efficient, timely, responsive, youth-friendly and high-quality support through:

• Support to UNICEF Offices in East Asia and Pacific in technical areas of gender trans-formative programming and adolescent girls’ empowerment programmes • Monitoring and facilitating consolidation of knowledge among countries, promote country to country collaboration, and maintain a regional resource repository for UNICEF EAP engagement on the GAP • Support the implementation and monitoring of the Gender Action in EAPR, including promoting adolescent girls’ strategy and programming • The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counter-parts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed

• Genuine commitment towards the principles of voluntary engagement, which includes solidarity, compassion, reciprocity and self-reliance; and commitment towards the UN core values.

Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Population Studies, Intercultural/multicultural studies

• Past experience with women and girls’ empowerment, gender rights is an advantage; • M&E and reporting skills and experience, especially relating to gender programmes, is essential • Able to translate theoretic concepts into easy to digest/brief notes and concepts • Ability to work within tight deadlines . Required computer skills (MS Windows, MS Office applications, Infographics)

Bangkok provides basic living needs, including accommodation, banking facilities, medical facilities and telecommunications/internet services are readily available. All staple foods can be found in the markets, eg: rice, meat, vegetables, fruit, cooking oil, salt, etc. Many imported goods are available in Bangkok and other places throughout Thailand. Bangkok has many good restaurants with good health standards and most guesthouses provide food. In Thailand the most used means of transportation are taxi or local bus (and, in Bangkok, the elevated train service). Mobile phone is the most dependable tool to be in- touch with colleagues and friends. Internet service is readily available and affordable at most apartment complexes. ATMs are everywhere in Thailand and Western cards can usually be used to withdraw Thai Baht. For those with children, schooling options in Bangkok are to be well evaluated and determined before taking your children at duty station. School fees and area really depends on your preferences. Admission fee for school in Thailand ranges from $3,000 - $9,000 and tuition fee from $5,500 - $25,533 (per annum). Depending on educational quality and the area which comes with price tags, you may need to explore more on schools to find out what they could offer that serves the needs of your children. No specific allocation is available for schooling and Volunteers will need to bare the entire costs.
