Serve as the UN Volunteer Gender Programme Officer to enhance gender initiatives

You have:

  • Master Degree or equivalent Advanced Degree in a related field of expertise
  • A minimum of 60 months (5 years) of paid working experience in a relevant field
  • Fluent in English

Contract

This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Resident Representative or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Gender Programme Officer will:

  • Effective application of RBM tools, annual report of results and supporting establishment of management targets and monitoring achievement of results for the gender projects: EU/UN Spotlight Initiative on Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Women in Leadership.
  • Contribute to the formulation of programs and projects in the areas of Democratic Governance for UNDP within the framework of the Common Country Program Document (CCDP). This will involve: research, preparation of concept notes; organization of project formulation and appraisal process including managing consultants and coordinating with UN agencies, government implementing partners, donors, civil society, etc.; ensuring quality and compliance of project design; managing the process of final appraisal and approval of the projects.
  • Support monitoring and quality assurance activities through participation in programme meetings, field visits; assistance to project reviews and mandatory annual external audit, etc., so as to ensure that projects are implemented effectively, and their outputs and impact being assessed in pursuance of the stated objectives of the projects.in the duties for this assignment.
  • Contribute through reporting and information sharing on UNDP’s Gender and Governance programme as required under Peace, People and Prosperity Pillars under the PNG Delivering as One UN Development Assistance Framework 2018-2022.
  • Coordinate with other UN Agencies, bilateral and multilateral donors for the objectives of the program.
  • Liaise with government and development partners for knowledge sharing on gender and democratic governance
  • Explore programme linkages with other on-going initiatives between the Governance and Environment Portfolio
  • Continuously review and analyse the political, economic and social developments in the country.
  • Keep an up-to-date library of knowledge on gender and governance portfolio, proactively sharing documents with team members and responding to their specific requests for information.
  • Contribute to the development and review of knowledge products by analysing and sharing lessons learnt and programme evaluation results as well as targeted interventions.
  • Facilitate innovation and knowledge sharing mechanisms within the CO to contribute to internalizing improved practices within teams and foster higher levels of engagement among colleagues.
  • Support the Governance Portfolio comprising of staff and consultants on implementation of projects and initiatives in compliance with the UNDP POPP.
  • Support process for Annual Workplan development, monitoring and reporting. These include UNDP’s corporate requirement on Atlas and UNDAF reporting.
  • Support the Governance Portfolio to prepare regular updates on programme and financial delivery including identification of any risks and bottlenecks.
  • Support senior management in briefing the Bureau leadership, liaising regularly with the regional hub team for their input and sharing information as requested by supervisors as well as representation as required in internal and external meetings.
