Background

The Gende and HIV Intern will work in close collaboration with the project team and Country Office programme and operations clusters, Government officials, private sector, non-government and civil society organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports the Gender portfolio on the preparation for the UNDP internal Gender Seal certification process: coordinating meetings of the Gender Focal Team, taking minutes and keeping records, collecting, archiving and uploading evidence.
  • Supports the gender portfolio projects on mainstreaming gender in CO programmes and operations Gender Seal for the Public Sector; GBV, Gender Responsive Budgeting. Offering administrative support, contribute to the drafting of concept notes, TORs and minutes, liaising with partners and any other duties assigned on this portfolio
  • Support the HIV portfolio by offering administrative support, contribute to the drafting of concept notes, TORs taking minutes, communications, updating of the website, liaising with partners and any other duties assigned on this portfolio
  • Assists the Gender & HIV portfolio’s contribution to the UN Country Team’s Joint activities

Expected Outputs/outcomes:

  • Expedite project implementation systematically through discussions and correspondences as well as field visits and analysis of periodic project progress reports,
  • Information and knowledge management including dissemination to project stakeholders and organizing relevant dialogue sessions and meetings
  • Capturing and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to programme goals,
  • Participate in meetings and ensure that plans, activities and resources are optimally coordinated with all partners and relevant programmes/projects
  • Draft terms of reference as directed and for final review by the programme manager

  • Clear understanding and knowledge of Gender and gender mainstreaming and public health, with a focus on HIV & AIDS in a developing country context

  • Ability to efficiently handle and share information and knowledge
  • Good writing and analytical skills, and ability to package detailed and complex information into simple formats for a diverse audience

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • studying towards or a degree preferably in Gender Studies, Development, Public Health, Social Sciences or other related fields

Experience:

  • Knowledge on writing reports, and designing tools for data collection, analysis and production of reports;
  • Good interpersonal, communications, and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of managing databases.
  • Analytical knowledge including knowledge of Microsoft applications.

Language:

  • Working knowledge of the English language along with writing and communication skills.

Intern requirements:

  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • Interns are expected to work full time but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
  • Applicants should indicate which months they are available part- and/or full time and when they complete their studies (if still enrolled);
  • Interns need to make own arrangements for travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.
