UNICEF Middle East works in sixteen countries to implement UNICEF's Strategic Plan 2022 – 2025, and the Gender Action Plan 2022-2026. The Strategic Plan charts a course towards inclusive recovery from COVID-19, the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals and the realization of a society in which all children are included, without discrimination, and have opportunities and agency in accordance with their rights.

The assigned UN Volunteer will work in close cooperation with and receive mentoring from the Regional Gender Advisor and Gender Specialists in order to support gender mainstreaming as well as gender transformative programming.

National UN University Volunteers in Jordan are entitled to:

• Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) at the amount of JOD 641.1;

Under the direct supervision of Regional Gender Advisor, the UN Volunteer will:

• Support consolidating gender results reported by COs in reports and evaluations, including the annual country office annual narrative and results reports; • Support the development of human-interest stories and monitor and follow up on advocacy plans for the Climate Change Technical Cohort; • Support the development and maintenance of a knowledge-sharing platform (internal and external), in coordination with UNICEF MENA’s Gender and ICT teams, using SharePoint; • Compile a monthly newsletter for the regional gender team with relevant resources, tools and guidance, to promote the regional and global gender programme priorities; • Support the development of case studies and best practices. The associate will collaborate with country offices, undertake research, and support the writing of the case studies; • Other tasks as needed, including support on internal processes, research, and support for Regional Office or Country Office projects.

(up to 1 year) the national and/or international is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization. • A recent graduate from Gender Studies or other relevant areas; being master's student in the same field is desirable. • Understanding of Gender Equality and willingness to learn UNICEF programming modalities and strategies; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in child rights and gender equality, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Amman, the capital, is a peaceful city with over four million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Amman. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Amman is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Amman have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Amman is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Jordan is a family duty station (category A hardship).

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the insurance plan.
