This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

In the preparation of the upcoming 2023 municipal elections the project will provide technical assistance and advisory support to the women candidates and voters at large. In addition, the project will work with civil society organizations and women NGOs to enhance awareness and knowledge of citizens and voter at large on topics related to legal framework, women’s rights and inclusive political participation. Within this context, the project is seeking to recruit a Gender Assistant to follow up on the implementation of common activities and joint initiatives with CSOs and other stakeholders and assist in providing logistical assistance to the organization of trainings across the country.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of LEAP Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Gender Assistant will:

• Assist and provide substantive support in the implementation of thematic activities focused on gender, women empowerment, representation and participation; • Coordinate, monitor and follow up with CSOs on activities/deliverables related to gender and women’s participation in the political life and elections; • Provide assistance in the development of the terms of reference and necessary documentation for the initiation of RPAs for the implementation of the project activities and deliverables for women’s participation in the political life and elections; • Follow-up on the progress of relevant activities and programs implemented, including logistic and operational support; • Provide regular briefings to project team and stakeholders, with a particular focus on women’s engagement and participation; • Prepare the logistics of training sessions, workshops, meetings, and other activities pertaining to the project, in coordination with the related team member; • Participate in the organization of project- related gender/training programs; • Contribute to the reports, power point presentations or any other document required during the implementation of the project; • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

areas related to democratic governance, promoting human rights, programs advocating for gender parity and women empowerment; • Experience working in the UN or other international development organization would be consider an asset; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially/gender sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • The self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in gender equality, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Beirut, Lebanon. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
