This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

UNAMA was established by the UN Security Council Resolution 1401 in March 2002 at the request of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Its mandate is reviewed annually with the latest mandate renewal being on 15 September 2020 when the Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2543 (2020) Resolution 2543 (2020) calls for UNAMA and the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, within their mandate and in a manner consistent with Afghan sovereignty, leadership and ownership, to continue to lead and coordinate international civilian efforts in full cooperation with the Government of Afghanistan. UNAMA maintains a permanent and extensive field presence across Afghanistan.

• Supports the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security and the DPPA Women, Peace and Security Policy (2019). • Supports knowledge management and data collection with regard to gender policy and facilitate the collection and exchange of information between partners and the Gender Advisory Unit. • Drafts, collates and edits specified results based inputs (RBB) for all gender-related reports and documentation as required. • Coordinate as needed, with other UN agencies, funds and programmes that have complementary mandates on gender-related issues through participating in working level mechanisms. • Support the provision of technical expertise as required to relevant mission Sections and Units on strategies for gender mainstreaming and analysis. • Supports the results-based process and provides substantive inputs to the results-based reporting and analysis. • Performs other duties as required

• Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant area, e.g. law or area related to gender studies or international relations; a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree; • Professional work experience at the national and/or international level in gender-related field, human rights, or legal , or other relevant programmes; experience with computer skills and budget formulation is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;

The duration of your assignment is indicated above with the possibility of extension subject to availability of funding, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment.

Travel to duty station (if applicable) and a Settling-In-Grant will be provided in the event the duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health, and permanent disability insurance are included) and final repatriation (if applicable).

Furthermore, in non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) on a monthly basis will be provided.
