Purpose of the consultancy:

Under the supervision of the Fundraising Officer, the consultant will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the fundraising plan, with a focus on providing specific FR training: induction training to new FR consultants / staff, face-to-face (F2F), telemarketing (TM) training to the team of fundraisers etc.

The FR Trainer Consultant works in close cooperation with the Fundraising Officer, face-to-face (F2F) fundraisers, telemarketing (TM) fundraisers, team supervisors, Database Management Associate, Stewardship Consultant, and other relevant staff and FR suppliers (for example, the F2F agency, TM agency etc.) in order to design and deliver specific FR trainings.

Background:

In 2018, UNICEF started a new five-year country partnership with Romania. The overall aim of the partnership is to continue to accelerate the universal realization of child rights and improve the situation of excluded children living in marginalized communities with large minorities and in most vulnerable and deprived areas. This is accompanied by promoting a culture of rights, social norms and alliances that will benefit all children and enhance equity and solidarity in the country.

Also, UNICEF continues to be the ‘Voice’ for children and adolescents, advocating and communicating around key national policies, social issues, mind sets and attitudes. In the current country programme, UNICEF in Romania continues to raise funds locally, both for national projects and for other countries.

Justification:

The private sector’s role as a key contributor to other resources is expected to grow. UNICEF fundraises from both the private individuals and corporate sector and is bringing on the market new techniques with excellent results in other markets.

In line with its Private Sector FR Plan (PSP) for 2018-2022, the UNICEF Office in Romania is increasing its fundraising efforts from private individuals, with a focus on building long term sustainable income, through monthly (pledge) donations. This will be achieved primarily by growing the number of pledge donors acquired through current channels (direct debit, online and SMS) and by upgrading, cross-selling, reactivation etc. already existing donors, through TM campaigns.

As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the F2F campaign was paused since mid-March 2020. The CO opened a new business streamline, telemarketing, which started in November 2020 with the team of former F2F fundraisers. The CO plans to re-open the F2F campaign once the context allows it and also to continue the telemarketing FR campaign.

The CO needs a consultant to provide support with designing and delivering specific FR trainings to relevant staff and consultants.

How can you make a difference?

Specific tasks:

The key tasks expected to be fulfilled by the consultant are:

  1. Designs and delivers effective online and offline induction training programs for new FR team members, according to specific needs;
  2. Designs training curricula within time and budget constraints;
  3. Together with the FR Campaign Coordinator Consultant, supports the onboarding of new fundraisers by providing induction training;
  4. Contributes to the design of online and offline training materials according to the specificity of the FR programme and team needs, taking into consideration the organization’s specific programmes;
  5. Delivers technical training related to use of various FR platforms (for e.g. Evergiving etc.);
  6. Contributes to the design and delivery of specific trainings for various FR channels, such as: face-to-face (indoor and outdoor), telemarketing (for donor acquisition, upgrade, conversion from one off to pledge donors);
  7. Develops specific training materials: scripts, pitches using stories of UNICEF beneficiaries to be used for FR etc.;
  8. Together with the FR Officer, the FR Campaign Coordinator Consultant, monitors fundraising objectives and results (e.g. average donation, number of no shows etc.) and develops specific training sessions, in order to improve FR KPIs;
  9. Researches, recommends and implements new training methods, like gamification;
  10. Reports on the impact of training programs (e.g. number of new fundraisers who passed the trial period);
  11. Together with the FR campaign Coordinator Consultant, participates in the recruitment process, interviews for new fundraisers in the team.

Methodology:

The consultant will work part time, an estimated 80 – 100 hours / month. The consultant will be working in the UNICEF in Romania office based in Bucharest, when the context allows it. The consultant will deliver all the necessary documents and information by e-mail, telephone or during meetings.

The consultant will work under the supervision of the Fundraising Officer. The duration of the contract is 11 months, to be adjusted based on the needs, evaluation of the performance and funds availability.

Payment will be made each month, upon delivering of the monthly written activity report.

Decision-making is limited to implementation, methods of work and prioritizing project activities in accordance with established work plan. The supervisor will provide specific instructions for assignments and will review work regularly for accuracy and soundness.

Recommendations are made by supervisor on appropriate course of action regarding project adjustments as a result of observations or required follow up actions.

Expected deliverables:

  1. Trainings are delivered within agreed timeframes;
  2. Training curricula are designed;
  3. Online and offline training materials are developed;
  4. Training efficiency reports are produced.

Qualification and experience:

  1. University degree in Communications, Marketing or another relevant field is required.
  2. A minimum of five years of professional experience in designing training curricula and delivering various trainings.
  3. Experience in working in the non-profit sector or INGOs is an added advantage.
  4. Fluency in English and Romanian is a must.

Skills and competencies:

  1. Excellent communication, presentation and public speaking skills;
  2. Planning and monitoring skills;
  3. Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected challenges and proposing counter measures accordingly;
  4. Computer literacy;
  5. Ability to learn and implement working with various platforms, for example: telemarketing platform, donor management platform etc.

General conditions - procedures and logistics:

  • The consultant will work from home and in the UNICEF office in Bucharest when the context allows it;
  • All information and communications of the team with UNICEF or other partners during this consultancy and in relation to it will be confidential, if not agreed otherwise;
  • Payments will be made monthly after the delivery of tasks, based on the activity report signed by the supervisor.

The consultant will sign a health statement prior to taking the assignment and the designation form will be completed. The consultant will be responsible for paying income taxes and any other due taxes as per applicable national legislation. UNICEF Terms and Conditions (attached) will apply.

  1. an updated CV focused on the skills and experience requested by the current consultancy;
  2. a cover letter underlining the motivation for applying for the position and how the candidate’s experience, skills and experience match the requirements of the position ;
  3. a financial offer, specifying the requested gross hourly fee in RON Financial bid_FR Trainer.docx taking into consideration that the consultant will be responsible for paying all his/her due income taxes as per Romanian fiscal legislation.

Selection procedure:

The contract will be awarded based on the best combination of expertise and fee.

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
