The Fundraising Specialist (Retention), at the NOC level in the Private Fundraising and Partnerships area, in Malaysia Country Office, reports to the Chief Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) who is at the P4 level. This new role will provide leadership and strategic guidance in the areas of Donor Care and Retention and Value Maximization.

Under the overall direction of the Chief PSFR P4 the incumbent will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic guidance in the areas of Donor Care and Retention and Value Maximization and strengthening operational systems and mechanisms that will enhance UNICEF’s strategic private sector individual fundraising. Additionally, the post holder will provide leadership and guidance to the Retention and Donor Care team in core and technical competency development, training and development of staff skills and capacities. They will also facilitate and support cross-sectional collaboration between fundraising, communications and programmes in key areas of synergy related to advocacy, messaging and communications with the public, in line with UNICEF’s brand and promoting UNICEF’s mission and mandate for children.

How can you make a difference?

Lead the long-term strategic planning, development and implementation of Retention and Value Maximization activities within the country in order to optimize fundraising and revenue potential, with a key focus on optimizing and developing monthly donors loyalty and life time value (LTV), minimizing attrition and innovating in donor engagement. Compile and analyze relevant data from the donor’s performance to use in the strategic planning.

Develop an annual work plan and budget for Retention, Donor Care and Value Max activities. Monitor and facilitate the implementation of fundraising strategies, work-plans and donor reporting and analysis to achieve targets, focusing on developing the loyalty of individual donors as well as ensuring the increase of their time life value.

Develop and oversee internal and external suppliers and partners (agencies, suppliers’ banks etc.) to ensure that processes are streamlined, effective and assisting the overall aim to grow income and to promote excellence in briefings and campaigns to the satisfaction of internal and external parties thereby protecting and promoting the UNICEF brand.

Maintain intelligence on latest developments in the market, including successful techniques being used by commercial and non-profit organizations to retain customers / donors and maximize their LTV, and the plans and activities of comparators.

Lead the development and implementation of a donor-centric journey, based on increased knowledge of our current donors, with the objective of increasing donor loyalty and engagement.

Lead the Donor Care team to ensure UNICEF donors receive the higher standards of customer care.

Provide leadership and oversight for the Retention and Value Max team to enhance the implementation of the strategic plan and lead the training and capacity development of the team.

Review and evaluate staff performance in the team, through robust and timely monitoring and to recommend changes and adjustments to plans as needed.

Be aware of all data protection legislation and self-regulatory codes of practice relating to advertising, direct marketing, fundraising and data protection ensuring digital media project compliance.

Keep up to date with UNICEF donor guidelines and best practice to ensure all global best practice and key learnings are utilized where relevant in donor retention and value maximization.

Provide regular reports to the Chief PSFR, Regional Support Center and the Global team on targets and KPIs.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in one of the following fields is required : Business Administration, Marketing, Fundraising or a related field. Additional professional qualifications in customer care, fundraising and/or marketing would be an asset. A first level University degree with 9 years of relevant working experience may be exceptionally accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in managing donor/customer, loyalty/retention programme together with proven track record in driving income growth.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
