The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within the Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) works with National Committees and UNICEF country offices to drive income growth. There are five teams within the PSFP section, including Global Philanthropy.

The purpose of the Global Philanthropy team is to drive income growth from major donors and family foundations. The team will lead the development of these areas and will support countries to grow these income streams as well as develop relationships at a global level with high-value individual supporters family and private foundations.

For every child, Support

The incumbent will work with the Global Philanthropy – Fund Raising Manager (Global Major Donors) in developing UNICEF’s fundraising strategy for UNICEF NextGen. NextGen’s mission is to engage, inspire and connect the next generation of global leaders (ages 21-45) in support of UNICEF's mission, leveraging their collective potential for catalytic impact as philanthropists, activists, and advocates for every child.

In particular, the incumbent will develop strategies for engaging the next generation of high net wealth individuals and providing strategic support and capacity building to Regional Support Centers and national markets, seeking to develop or accelerate growth in income from these emerging philanthropists. This post will also manage a new, global offer of engagement for next generation donors (UNICEF NextGen Global Principals) and provide cutting edge technical support to National Committees and country offices which prioritize work with younger philanthropists as part of their major donor programme. The post holder will accomplish this through offering training and mentoring to market focal points, collecting and analyzing performance data, sharing best practices, monitoring global philanthropic trends, managing a reference group, and facilitating the dissemination of information for the purpose of knowledge sharing. In addition, the post holder will support special projects as necessary.

How can you make a difference?

Strategy & Planning

  • Conduct feasibility studies to determine which countries have the capacity and the demographic to launch a NextGen and make recommendations to leadership.
  • Prospecting with and for the country (in-country and amongst the NextGen global network).
  • Present on NextGen with staff to respective leadership in making a case for NextGen in their communities.

Capacity Building & Thought Leadership

  • Support Country Offices and NatComs in fundraising and capacity build where and when needed, priority countries include the U.S., Germany, Italy, and the UK.
  • Share learnings across countries, create best in class models.
  • Refine toolkits to support colleagues in country to build or grow their NextGen programme.

Global Coordination

  • Manage NextGen Global Principals, lead strategy and execution for year-round programme with focus on quarterly board meetings
  • Support the creation of and oversee the NextGen global portal (pending IT capacity/prioritization) to allow for sustained. connectivity across NextGen members.
  • Have a pulse on all NextGen families across borders so engagement and solicitations are coordinated and streamlined efficiently and effectively.
  • Support in the hard credit/soft credit dilemmas of multi-country families and businesses.
  • Bring synergy and connectivity to the NextGen global network – ways to connect, collaborate, and celebrate each other
  • Organize and execute webinars, gatherings and programme offerings.
  • Create an international sense of solidarity among existing members and with more activities and opportunities open to international membership.
  • Foster a culture of giving amongst a global new generation.
  • Make a name for UNICEF in the global innovative philanthropy space and the ‘go-to’ organization for UHNW individuals under 40.

Relationship Management

  • Support countries in accessing Forbes 30 Under 30, Fortune 500 families in respective countries.
  • Support Country Offices and NatComs in creating a transition/graduation plan for NextGen members to ensure major gift portfolio pipelines.
  • Support solicitations when appropriate.
  • Cultivate relationships with NextGen prospective families for the UNICEF International Council.

Future:

  • Create and manage a Global Chairs Group.
  • Organize and execute with collaboration from global NG liaisons a NextGen Global Annual Leadership Summit.

Together, we are creating an unparalleled global network of influencers, donors, and advocates for the world’s children. We are cultivating UNICEF’s future (and current) major donors, influencers, corporations, foundations, and board members; creating a culture of giving amongst a new global generation and creating the pipeline for support for the world’s leading humanitarian organization for children.

Deliverables:

The incumbent will provide thought leadership and analysis to advance UNICEF’s strategy for engaging young philanthropists, which will result in:

  • The development and dissemination of a strategy to engage next-generation donors in priority markets.
  • A global engagement offer for top next-generation influencers (UNICEF NextGen Global Principals).
  • Presentation decks for National Committee leadership and boards.
  • A NextGen Global Annual Leadership Summit.
  • Virtual events and training.

The incumbent will also provide dedicated support to priority markets on donor strategy, prospecting, and engagement of UHNWI and family foundations, which should result in:

  • Significant increase in engagement with young UHNWI/family foundations in the key markets with income increases after 12-18 months.
  • Prospect lists and donor strategies developed for top prospects in each of the markets.
  • Increased engagement from the leadership (board and staff) of the markets in engaging NextGen prospects.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced University degree in Business Management, Communication, Marketing, International Relations, Social Sciences, or another relevant field is required.
  • Alternatively, a first-level University degree in a relevant field combined with 2 years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience in private sector fundraising with a focus on next-generation philanthropy is required.
  • Must be a self-motivated professional with a proven success record in major gift and/or Gen X/millennial fundraising and philanthropy.
  • Familiarity with UHNWI and foundations is highly desirable.
  • Practiced communicator with demonstrated ability to condense information and capture and communicate it in a well-structured way.
  • Experience working in a team is required.
  • Track record of working independently and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the UN system and familiarity with UNICEF programme activities are desirable.

Language requirement:

  • Fluency in English is required
