UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up

The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) works with National Committees and country offices to maximize income and continued growth. There are five teams within the PSFP section, including Global Philanthropy.

The purpose of the Global Philanthropy team is to drive income growth from major donors (UHNWI/HNWI) and family foundations. The team will lead the development of these new opportunities and will support countries to grow this income stream as well as develop relationships at a global level with high-value individual donors, and family and private foundations.

Reporting to the Fundraising Manager, Major Donors (Europe), the incumbent will work to provide strategic support and capacity building in European markets with a focus on Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The incumbent will accelerate the growth of major donor revenue in order to maximize resources to achieve results for children.

How can you make a difference?

Partner with the National Committee fundraising team members and committee leadership to advance fundraising strategy, prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship of new and existing donors in the market (see below):

Strategy:

  • Analyze the UHNWI/HNWI and family foundation market related to philanthropic giving.
  • Support the market in developing and growing a major donor strategy.
  • Develop approaches and offers to reach UHNWIs and family foundations.
  • Support the fundraising teams in the country to ensure they are well set up to work with UHNWIs.

Prospecting:

  • Identify and research UHNWI individuals, families, and family foundations with the capacity and an expected inclination to support UNICEF at the $1million+ level.
  • Map a prospective list of key philanthropists and philanthropic advisors who will be able to further UNICEF’s private-sector fundraising efforts.
  • Work with fundraising colleagues in Europe to further UNICEF’s private-sector fundraising ambition in the region.

Engagement:

  • Leverage global offerings, such as the UNICEF International Council, to engage prospective UHNWI and family foundation partners able to give gifts ($1million+).
  • Work with Global Philanthropy and National Committee colleagues to engage board members and other senior leadership linked to identified prospects to build personalized relationships, resulting in solicitations of $1million+ gifts.
  • Support the creation and execution of special events to cultivate and steward UHNWI and family foundation prospects and donors in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Market Knowledge and Development:

  • Identify trends in the philanthropic sector, at the global, regional and local levels to help create a set of recommendations on how UNICEF should leverage these trends and further its position as a philanthropic partner of choice in the current philanthropic landscape.
  • Recommend key opportunities based on local market knowledge and feedback from UHNWI/HNWI and foundations to help build and sustain short and long-term fundraising strategies and growth.
  • Help drive UNICEF’s brand awareness and stakeholder understanding of the opportunities for philanthropists to partner with UNICEF and engage in a lifetime journey serving the most underserved children, living in the most challenging environments in the world.

DELIVERABLES:

The incumbent will provide dedicated support for an identified group of priority markets, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to develop donor strategy, prospecting, and engagement of UHNWI and family foundations, as well as market knowledge and development which should result in:

  • Significant increase in engagement with UHNWI/family foundations in the key markets with income increases after 12-18 months.
  • Prospect lists and donor cultivation strategies developed for top prospects within those markets.
  • $1million+ relationships supported through initial stages and towards income delivery phase.
