Under the guidance of the New Business Manager, and in collaboration with the full Global Philanthropy Team, the Fundraising Specialist (Campaigns) will develop initiatives and support markets to accelerate the growth of major donors and high-value revenue streams in order to maximize resources and achieve results for children.

How can you make a difference?

1. Project manage UNICEF’s first capital campaign

  • Work with the New Business Manager, as well as research and global fundraising colleagues, to develop the campaign strategy (including goal, timeline, donor pipeline, tiered proposal and recognition options and other core campaign infrastructure).
  • Manage the operations of the campaign Working Group and Steering Committee, ensuring that they are progressing collaboratively and successfully against a clear campaign goal and timeline and are useful fora to drive success.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with global fundraising colleagues and collaborate with them on pitches to and stewardship of campaign prospects and participants, including developing proposals, reports, and other materials.
  • Create a full package of compelling marketing materials, including but not limited to donor proposals, presentations, Q&As, and other collateral that can be readily adapted at the country level.
  • Forge consensus among research and fundraising colleagues globally to identify, originate and frame a full range of funding and recognition opportunities, from $500k to $20m.
  • Establish and steward campaign Board (if Board is determined necessary).
  • Create compelling creative collateral, including campaign narrative and look & feel
  • Monitor global and regional trends in philanthropy and capital campaigns to ensure that UNICEF creates a robust and competitive offer, in line with benchmark organizations in key markets.
  • Manage the recruitment and work of any relevant external agencies or consultants and fulfill other project management duties as needed.

2. Accelerate the growth of critical markets’ high-value portfolios

  • In response to needs identified by the Global Philanthropy Team, support critical markets with and, where relevant, lead on:

    • Prospecting: Identifying and researching UHNWI individuals, families, and family foundations with the capacity and an expected inclination to support at the $1million+ level.
    • Engagement: Engaging prospective UHNWI and family foundation partners able to give ($1million+) gifts with appropriate and relevant approaches and offers, leveraging senior leadership and board member networks where helpful.
    • Communications: Aligned with the philanthropic marketing strategy and communications and marketing colleagues, support the creation of bespoke communication toolkits to support markets in attracting UHNWI donors and families.

3. Contribute to the Global Philanthropy Team’s market knowledge and influence initiatives

  • Identify trends in the philanthropic sector and recommend opportunities based on market knowledge and feedback from UHNWI/HNWI and foundations to help build and sustain short and long-term fundraising strategies and growth.
  • Help drive brand awareness and stakeholder understanding of the opportunities for philanthropists to partner with the organization, including by helping to secure partnerships and speaking opportunities for UNICEF leaders, both internal and external, with cultural, academic, and other influential organizations in key donor markets.
  • Support the wider philanthropic marketing strategy to cement UNICEF as the chosen partner for philanthropists.

4. Additional support on initiatives or projects as needed.

Deliverables:

The Fundraising Specialist will provide dedicated support to the Global Philanthropy Team focused on initiatives and markets (as needed) to attract new $1m+ donors globally.

  • Timeline, donor pipeline, tiered funding, and recognition options developed for the Capital Campaign.
  • $1million+ relationships supported through initial stages and towards the income delivery phase for the Capital Campaign.
  • Effective support provided to one or more global markets, with a clear benefit Meaningful contribution made to influence initiatives.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Humanities, Business Administration, or related field is required.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree in combination with two years’ additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional work experience in major gift fundraising including experience personally soliciting six-figure gifts from UHNWIs.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of fundraising and philanthropy, as well as an understanding of international development.
  • Experience producing communication products and toolkits required.
  • Marketing experience required.
  • Direct experience working on a Capital Campaign, ideally from the creation and inception of the Campaign is an asset.
  • Experience working in international organizations and on cross-divisional or cross-functional teams are additional assets.
  • Knowledge of the UN system is an advantage.
  • Project Management certification is an advantage.
  • Experience with UNICEF and UN is an asset.

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

UNICEF PFP-Geneva/New York is currently reviewing organizational changes; therefore, the exact future location of the post is still under consideration/to be determined. Candidates may be asked to commence duties remotely. Should the selected candidate be assigned and relocate, they may later be asked to relocate and be assigned to another location during the initial contract or assignment period.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF.
