UNICEF Costa Rica office is looking for a Fundraising Officer for a temporary assignment position.

Under the general guidance of the Representative of UNICEF Costa Rica Country Office, the Fundraising Officer will provide support to the Individual Giving and Corporate Partners strategic planning, development and implementation with the objective of maximizing the income and number of active donors and business partners of UNICEF Costa Rica, by developing donor acquisition, value maximization and retention strategies and business partners engagement for fundraising and results for children.

How can you make a difference?

This post will provide strategic and tactical leadership across all areas of the Individual Giving channel with the aim of maximizing resources for results (RR) revenue for UNICEF Costa Rica. The post holder will ensure the success of the fundraising investment allocated to the Country Office and manage and deliver on the associated KPI’s for investment working closely with the LAC Regional Office.

Key business areas will be face to face, CPTP (corporate pathways to pledge), digital, telemarketing, cash, and emergency fundraising in addition to donor retention and value maximization. A key focus area will be to ensure that Individuals channels are being optimized through appropriate investment and ensuring the best regional practices have been adopted to keep a high level of quality and success in the fundraising programmes.

The post holder will, in addition, to managing Individuals Giving channels, manage any significant opportunities that may arise in high value channels – Corporate and Philanthropy. The post holder will also support UNICEF Costa Rica on its Business for Results work, supporting the engagement with business associations.

The post holder will develop long terms plans for PSFR activity in the market and advocate, manage and lead on investment proposals to ensure sufficient investment.

The post of the Fundraising Specialist is as part of the Costa Rica CO team, will work closely with CMT members and will be supported and work closely by the LAC Regional Office.

Key Functions, Accountabilities, Duties & Tasks

  • Work to develop and implement Individuals Giving Programmes in the Costa Rica CO. Implement best practice in line with regional recommendations and work closely with the LAC Regional Office to ensure the successful implementation of key channels.
  • Work to implement the allocated investment and monitor and report on the KPI’s associated with the investment to the Country and Regional office on a monthly basis. Deliver on the desirable ROI as outlined in the investment applications and ensure deliver of associated gross revenue.
  • Manage two UNV’s to develop direct dialogue channels in the Costa Rica Country Office.
  • Carry out regular monthly revenue tracking through in-depth analysis of KPIs and regular engagement to monitor results. In case of shortfall, work to identify and implement corrective action. Identify opportunities for delivering revenue upside in Country Office to offset shortfalls in others.
  • Work to identify appropriate fundraising agencies and carry out the necessary procurement processes with Operations to ensure timely contracting. Monitor the performance of these fundraising agencies.
  • Lead on the CRM system management in the Costa Rica CO.
  • Work to ensure that the CO is in line with all of UNICEF processes and recommendations including those for PCI compliance.
  • Analyze, develop and promote long/term strategies and programmes to maximize revenue potential for Costa Rica CO.
  • Furthermore, the incumbent will remain sensitive to risk in the programs that he/she is supporting and escalate as necessary.
  • Responsible for the quality assurance of the different fundraising materials developed for acquisition and retention activities.
  • Provides technical training and support to achieve goals for each acquisition campaign to the team in the office or the suppliers.
  • Supports Costa Rica CO on the engagement with private sector partners for fundraising initiatives as well as for Business for Results, working in close coordination with the Communication and Partnership Officer.

This post will contribute with the organizations goals as it will:

  • Make decisions on individual donors fundraising strategies, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Make recommendations on individual donors fundraising strategies and management issues to achieve stated objectives.
  • Make recommendations on the introduction of new initiatives in the individual donors’ area.
  • Motivate fundraising agents and teams
  • Make recommendations related to the business sector in Costa Rica and directly supports the office engagement with the private sector, for fundraising initiatives and Business for Results for Children.
  • Inform the Country Management Team on the development of the work, progress and challenges to be overcome.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Advanced University degree in any of the following: Marketing, Communication, Fundraising, Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, or equivalent.

A first level university degree (Bachelor’s) in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

At least 2 years hands-on experience, in progressively responsible roles, of managing and developing Individual Giving activities, with at least 2 of those years in charities/NGOs, including experience of international fundraising.

The new staff member should have Management Experience from previous roles, either as direct manager or as a coordinator of complex initiatives involving other teams.

Fluency in English and Spanish is required for this post.
