Fundraising innovation has been included in the 2022-2025 Resource Mobilization Strategy as a strategic priority to “develop revenue from new business models while maximizing revenue from our existing ones”. Established in 2018, the Fundraising innovation in UNICEF has gained strong leadership support since its beginning, which has been a main driver for the growth of the program.

In the recent situational analysis of the Fundraising Innovation Program as well as the Internal Needs Assessment for Innovation 2022, strong needs have been identified from markets (Country Offices as well as National Committees) to provide various types of support on driving fundraising innovation. With the number of fundraising innovation focal points increasing, more capacity is needed to maintain a long-term relationship with consistent investment in capacity and internal communications.

For every child, a Champion

This role will support the Global Fundraising Innovation Program in creating a supportive and enabling environment for Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) headquarters, regional offices and teams in markets to drive fundraising innovation. As part of the Market Development Team, the Fundraising Officer (Innovation) will:

  • Support the Fundraising Innovation Fund portfolio management and facilitate the grant-making process.
  • Administer the fundraising innovation platform (UNICORN).
  • Work closely with focal points in markets (Country Offices and National Committees), where similar functions have been or will be established.
  • Support the mainstreaming of fundraising innovation on global, regional, and national levels.
  • Support to expansion of the global community of fundraising innovation, both internal and external.
  • Support the Head of Global Fundraising Innovation in areas required.

How can you make a difference?

Under the guidance of the head of Global Fundraising Innovation, the incumbent will provide technical supportive roles in the below areas:

1. Partnership building, networking, and engagement: Maximizes opportunities for UNICEF engagement in external innovation ecosystem around fundraising, such as the Reimagining Fundraising Global Open Innovation Challenge, INGO Fundraising Innovation Network, joint solution development initiatives, to leverage resources, expertise, technology for UNICEF fundraising innovation priorities and supports opportunities to accelerate the development of innovative fundraising solutions.

2. Planning and coordination: Support coordination within PFP, across divisions, Office of Innovation, Regional Offices (ROs)/Country Offices (COs), National Committees, and external organizations on UNICEF’s fundraising innovation initiatives. Plans organizes and supports engagement with PFP leadership, including the Fundraising Strategy Group and other key stakeholders in key initiatives relating to fundraising innovation. Coordinates the preparation of events and related materials including briefing notes, presentations, talking points, key messages as needed. Supports and monitors the allocation process of the Fundraising Innovation Fund in coordination with PFP finance team.

3. Capacity building: Provide support in capacity building with National Committees, regional and country offices on driving fundraising innovation, including running crowdsourcing initiatives, training, resources, and best practices to develop new fundraising solutions. Supports the markets’ needs assessment on fundraising innovation and the regular collection of feedback from key stakeholders.

4. Technical support: Provides technical support and advice regarding the integration of fundraising innovation into UNICEF planning processes, approaches and work plan. Provides inputs into briefing materials and other communications as needed. Administers UNICEF’s internal innovation tools, platforms and digital spaces on activities relating to fundraising and private sector partnerships. Support and train users and challenge administrators on using the tools.

5. Communications: Supports the development of communication plan and produces contents related to engagement with UNICEF’s fundraising innovation community as well as external audiences. Liaise with key stakeholders within PFP, Country Offices, and National Committees on UNICEF’s Fundraising Innovation Fund approval, allocation, monitoring, and reporting.

6. Knowledge management: Facilitates knowledge capture, curation, mapping and sharing on innovative fundraising solutions and projects, including through updating UNICORN Fundraising Innovation Fund repository, the PFP intranet and collaboration site, and other sources, and develops content/articles for internal and external audiences.

DELIVERABLES:

  • Further the development and management of the fundraising innovation community in close collaboration with internal and external counterparts (including the organization of community-building & knowledge-sharing activities, the coordination of global initiatives, and the ad-hoc support of national/regional activities).
  • Supported and facilitated Fundraising Innovation Team key processes (e.g. planning, innovation funds allocations and monitoring)
  • Developed and keeping updated tools, platforms, communications, materials, proposals, trainings and other resources for fundraising teams support on driving innovation.

Education:

  • A university degree is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in fundraising, innovation, or another relevant area is required.
  • Experience in project design, management, and implementation is required.
  • Others: Knowledge of MS Office is required. Proficiency in a range of ICT applications that support fundraising innovation.
  • Excellent knowledge and/or ability to use the latest tools available to facilitate the team’s work is an asset.

Remarks:

UNICEF PFP-Geneva is currently reviewing organizational changes; therefore, the exact future location of the post is still under consideration/to be determined. Candidates may be asked to commence duties remotely. Should the selected candidate be assigned and relocate to Geneva, they may later be asked to relocate and be assigned to another location during the initial contract or assignment period.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid).
