UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, sustenance

The Regional Office for South Asia supports Country Offices and governments to advance towards the full realization of all child rights across the region with a country presence in 8 countries to ensure that no child is left behind. The Regional Office plays both a technical advisory and oversight role, guiding Country Offices in designing, implementing and documenting results for children.

UNICEF currently has no regional private sector fundraising function in South Asia and no country-level fundraising operations other than in India. This leaves UNICEF in South Asia unprepared to take advantage of the current and rapidly growing potential of corporate, foundation, major gift and membership-based giving in the region. Current research indicates that the economies of Bangladesh and Pakistan are large and growing rapidly. At the same time, many UNICEF programmes are facing urgent financing gaps, including in humanitarian funding. Local fundraising would provide a way to minimize these gaps while also increasing UNICEF’s relevance and influence with government and the private sector.

UNICEF has set up a Private Sector Income Hub for the South Asia region that will explore new, more cost-effective models of income generation within South Asia to help meet programme needs and increase financial sustainability across the region. Within the Hub, the High Value Fundraising function will organically develop corporate, foundation, membership-based and major gift fundraising, focusing on partnerships that can bring $500,000 and above to maximize return on investment.

How can you make a difference?

The Fundraising Manager will work under the Chief of the South Asia Income Hub to develop and lead a customized approach to high value philanthropists, membership-based, corporate, and foundation partnerships, working closely with Programmes and Communication sections (in the regional office and selected country offices), to achieve long term sustainable income for UNICEF South Asia programmes.

Key Duties and Tasks

Lead prospecting of high value donors and develop engagement strategies and plans (corporates, foundations, philanthropists) for the region and select Country Offices.

  1. Develop a priority list of top new business prospects across corporate, foundation and high value channels based on capacity and likelihood to give and affinity to the cause.
  2. Develop engagement plans to initiate partnerships with top prospects.
  3. Serve as the front-facing relationship lead on key prospective partnerships
  4. Pilot group acquisition and engagement opportunities, based on the interests of an identified priority prospect list. For example, virtual events to highlight content of interest from programmes; Ramadan-linked cultivation and solicitation opportunities; and/or emergency fundraising activators.
  5. Support market assessments as well as other efforts to tap into high value potential across the region.

Build capacity with local teams and ensure efficient execution of high value strategies.

  1. Support Country Office fundraising teams in establishing the annual work plan, setting priorities/targets and performance measurements.
  2. Support Country Offices with high value fundraising. Where Country Offices have local partnership staff, provide technical support, capacity-building and strategic oversight for their high value fundraising, including acting as a knowledge management hub to collect local learning and to connect to global engagements and offerings (e.g., World Economic Forum, United Nations General Assembly).
  3. Support and build capacity on contracting with partners.
  4. Work with and oversee the work of two consultants to ensure all programme presentations, briefings and proposals are high quality and meet the needs of the partners and appropriate partnership benefits, communications and visibility for newly secured partners.

Manage the High Value Strategy of the Hub.

  1. Establish clear goals, individually as well as for related functions, monitor work progress on high value and ensure results are achieved according to schedule and performance standards.
  2. Evaluate the performance of the High Value channel, leverage lessons learned, and contribute to financial sustainability of the Hub.

The Fundraising Manager is an authoritative expert in the field of partnership development and resource mobilization. The quality of work and external communications performed by the Manager directly impact on the overall reputation of UNICEF.

In addition, the Fundraising Manager will:

  • Generate cohesion with the Chief, South Asia Income Hub, and Communication, Fundraising and Programmes for consistent, effective and efficient engagement of high value donors.
  • Secure one-off and long-term high value partnerships with donors at a regional and local level across multiple channels and leveraging all available accelerators (Islamic giving, emergency responses, etc.)
