The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) works with UNICEF National Committees and country offices to maximize engagement and drive income growth. There are seven teams within the PSFP section including Market Development. The purpose of the Market Development team (MDT) is to maximize private sector revenue. We do this by advocating for ambitious growth and shaping the fundraising and partnership strategies to maximize market potential in National Committees, optimizing the returns from Investment Funds, and finding breakthrough fundraising solutions via the fundraising innovation programme.

Within MDT, Fundraising Innovation (FIT) is a key accelerator for our income growth focusing on developing future potential revenue sources for UNICEF and promoting an entrepreneurial mindset in fundraising. FIT builds the path together with fundraising teams to develop new solutions, products, and business models, and be a leading contributor to the sector. This position is in the headquarters of PFP, within the PSFP section, in the Market Development Team. It reports to the position of Chief, Market Development.

While the organization’s fundraising operation has seen significant success in recent years it is important to inculcate a culture of innovation, especially within the fundraising function, to ensure that UNICEF continues to be the organization of choice for donors around the world in the future. This position is responsible for driving strategic innovation in fundraising practices through internal collaborations and external partnerships; supporting the funding and piloting of innovative fundraising ideas; and consolidating and sharing best practices to inform global fundraising innovation priorities for UNICEF.

How can you make a difference?

Working in close collaboration with fundraising teams in National Committees and country offices, PFP teams, Regional Support Centers, and the Office of Innovation, the incumbent is accountable for the following:

  • Drive fundraising innovation and manage PFP resources/investment to maximize results. Align investments and central innovation initiatives with overall PSFP fundraising priorities.
  • Manage the fundraising innovations pipeline generated and leveraged by the Fundraising Innovation Fund (FRIF), identifying solutions gaps and opportunities, and developing product prototypes and pilot testing new products.
  • Support teams to apply for FRIF, facilitate the approval and allocation process and monitor the implementation and evolution of funded projects. Share learnings from FRIF-funded initiatives.
  • Drive and facilitate the solution development process for global projects.
  • Develop and coordinate relationships with other UNICEF areas and external parties to grow the innovation ecosystem around fundraising.
  • Provide leadership and direction to building external and internal relationships representing UNICEF in different forums. Lead/contribute to initiatives implemented internally and with external partners (e.g. joint innovation challenges with INGOs).
  • Advise other UNICEF innovation teams on potential linkages and synergies to private sector fundraising.
  • Establish and maintain a network of external partners that could support UNICEF’s work in fundraising innovation.
  • Monitor and bring into the innovation process external trends and successful private sector business models to support the decision-making by fundraising leadership and inform strategic planning moments.
  • Manage and coordinate UNICEF’s global fundraising innovation community to promote participation, collaboration, and dialogue among innovation champions.
  • Manage, update, and mainstream the UNICEF innovation platforms and tools (e.g. UNICORN); increase collaboration and visibility.
  • Support markets in running national fundraising innovation sprints and challenges. Secure adequate communication and coordination with stakeholders.
  • Promote and secure tools, best practices guidance, and training within the Fundraising Innovation community to secure fundraising teams are equipped with what is needed to advance innovation.
  • Mobilize and keep a high level of engagement with the fundraising innovation community of practice.
  • Maintain an updated innovations repository, facilitate the sharing of key learnings, and support the rollout of proven solutions, if needed.

Manage the Fundraising Innovation team:

  • Provide support and exemplary management and leadership, motivating and developing staff members under his/her supervision to perform at their best and live the core values (care, respect, integrity, trust, accountability).

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced university degree is required in one of the following fields: Fundraising, Marketing, Communication, Management, Business Administration, Business Development, Innovation, or another relevant technical field.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree in a relevant area combined with an additional 2 years of professional experience in a relevant field may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant and progressively responsible professional work experience in one of the following fields - fundraising, marketing, innovation, management, business administration, business development, economics, social sciences, international relations, or communication is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing an innovation program or leading major innovation initiatives in an international company or organization is required.
  • Experience in solutions/product development or private sector fundraising is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the UN system and familiarity with the UNICEF program is an asset.

Language requirement:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.

UNICEF PFP-Geneva is currently reviewing organizational changes; therefore, the successful candidates may be asked to commence duties remotely, and they may later be asked to relocate and be assigned to the final post-duty station/location in Berlin.
