Context

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) responds worldwide to humanitarian needs through its global network of delegations. The ICRC is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

In order to ensure the predictable funding of its operations, the ICRC has set itself the goal to diversify its fundraising portfolio, mainly focused on increasing structured philanthropy and philanthropic giving, working with and through National Societies and prioritizing existing and new products and campaigns, including the flagship programme, “the One Campaign”, not only for its potential to raise new income but also to enhance the potential of delivering join fundraising campaign within the Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement.

The One Campaign is a fundraising and awareness-raising initiative coordinated by the ICRC involving multiple National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The One Campaign is also an example of a fundraising product that aligns with the ambitions of the ICRC’s resource mobilization strategy to increase income from private audiences working with and through National Societies (NS).

Purpose of the position

As a key member of the Private Sector Engagement (PSE) team, the PSE Global Campaigns Manager is responsible for driving and managing global fundraising campaigns through a networked structure of well-coordinated efforts across the ICRC and National Society (NS) fundraising and communication teams. They are responsible for developing and implementing strategic and creative products, including but not limited to the One Campaign.

In order to achieve results, the function will develop approaches that are evidence-based, endorsed and actionable. The function will therefore require high levels of engagement with colleagues across the ICRC and NS fundraising and communication teams in multiple geographies, as well as fundraising experience and supporter insight. , and actionable. The ability to build effective working relationships with key internal and external project stakeholders at all levels of seniority is essential.

Relationships

  • Internally, interacts across the Resource Mobilization (REM) and Communications (COM) division, where necessary, providing guidance beyond these Divisions, as well as with Movement and Operations when required.
  • Externally, interacts with NS fundraising and Communication teams and Advertising, Marketing, film production and PR agencies.

Main duties & responsibilities 1/2

  • Responsible for the management and delivery of global fundraising campaigns, including the One Campaign, ensuring this function to sustainably drive value for the RCRC Movement;
  • Ensure that plans for both strategic and operational elements of global fundraising campaigns, from early-stage planning to implementation and beyond, are created, adapted, implemented, and delivered in coordination with internal and external stakeholders to achieve campaign goals;
  • Work across REM and COM teams to ensure clear processes and validation framework(s), developing a plan for content development and other core campaign assets, ensuring co-ordination, communication, and alignment across the different campaign areas/teams;
  • Ensure that final fundraising products and assets provided by external agencies are aligned with fundraising campaigns’ messaging, tone and imagery and coherent with ICRC and NS communication and fundraising standards;
  • Produce campaign assets specifically for ICRC and NS’ audiences, including multi-channel toolkits, pitch presentations, social media content, and any other product which might be required;
  • Lead in the selection process for external agencies, contractors and suppliers and help develop and maintain effective working relationships, providing appropriate feedback as necessary;
  • Lead the project fundraising campaign team, liaising with external agencies from the briefing stage to final delivery to develop appropriate products, campaign materials and creative concepts;

Main duties & responsibilities 2/2

  • Support to identify and commission stories from ICRC’s field projects in line with the relevant thematic angles for global fundraising campaigns; coordinate the content development work with external interlocutors; and follow-up with delegations and Regional Communication Centers (RCCs) for content validation as and when needed;
  • Regularly inform REM and COM teams, including management, on the status of the project and troubleshoot as required;
  • Effectively coordinate human resources in a transversal and integrated way;
  • Assist in developing income targets, budgets, projections and other KPIs of fundraising campaigns, performing strategic analysis to provide insight into campaign delivery and effectiveness;
  • Collect and share best practices and lessons learned on campaigns, and draft frequent notes or briefings for the use of ICRC and NS colleagues globally, to ensure knowledge retention and process improvement;
  • Administer campaign-related contracts/requisitions, and lead on the identification and procurement of the services of creative agencies, consultants and other suppliers as needed, ensuring compliance with ICRC’s standards and requirements.

Certifications / Education required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/communication or a relevant subject;
  • Master’s degree in Marketing and/or Communication an asset;
  • Computer Proficiency;
  • Certification in Project Management is an asset.

Professional experience and skills required

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in private fundraising in an international humanitarian and/or development setting, either in individual giving channels and/or global campaigns, delivering marketing and/or fundraising campaigns across multiple markets, audiences and channels (offline and online);
  • Financial management experience (budgeting and resource allocation);
  • Experience in producing successful fundraising campaigns and appeal assets that have consistently met or exceeded targets and developing innovative strategies;
  • Experience in working with external partners and agencies to develop and test from innovative digital storytelling and creative content to campaigns that aim at using non-traditional communication means such as VR/AR, data visualization, and digital platforms;
  • Excellent collaborative leadership style and ability to lead, convene and inspire in a complex networked organization and Movement across a range of cultures;
  • Experience in solving complex issues through a clear way forward and ensuring buy-in from internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ability to operate and make clear decisions in an environment of some uncertainty;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and its fundraising context – experience within the Movement in a fundraising capacity is an advantage;
  • Confident, strategic, and an inspiring communicator;
  • Proven abilities to take initiative and innovate to improve current approaches and processes;
  • Analytical mind with a strong team spirit and problem-solving and results-driven attitude;
  • English essential, French, Spanish, Arabic, or Mandarin an advantage.
