The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within the Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) works with National Committees and UNICEF regional and country offices to maximize income and drive income growth. The role of the Global Foundations team within the PSFP section is to drive income growth among global and national foundations and to cement long-term partnerships based on a shared commitment to advancing the rights of children. The Global Foundations team manages several partnerships directly and provides support and oversight to priority National Committees and regional/country offices.

For every child, a champion

Under the general guidance of the Partnerships Manager (Foundations) and working in close collaboration across the Foundations team, the incumbent will support development of new foundations pipelines and management of existing high-profile foundation partnerships, with a particular focus on supporting the cultivation of new partnerships and accelerating progress on existing partnerships, including through the creation and maintenance of relationships with high-level aggregators and foundation/philanthropic networks.

The incumbent will facilitate securing, managing, developing, coordinating, negotiating and monitoring partnerships with foundations and foundation networks.

The incumbent will support the implementation of UNICEF's Global Foundations Strategy, including the development of market- and region-specific sub-strategies/bespoke engagement plans for key partners and prospects under the global framework, strengthening of internal collaboration, coordination and information sharing, and capacity building of new and emerging teams and markets.

How can you make a difference?

Summary of key functions and accountabilities:

1. Framework for coordination/information flows in support of Global Foundations Strategy

Support the Foundations team's efforts to implement, monitor, and adapt (as needed) the Global Foundations Strategy for engaging with foundations and foundation/philanthropic networks. This will include engaging across the UNICEF family (HQ regional/country offices and National Committees) on both partner-specific and foundation community-wide approaches; developing a community of practice; and ensuring that vertical and horizontal coordination and information flows are established and well maintained.

2. Foundation/philanthropic networks and convening events

Promote a new business approach to foundations by coordinating UNICEF's participation at the global and regional/country levels with foundation/philanthropic networks, identifying opportunities to engage UNICEF's leadership and technical leads in these networks and forums/events. Support the identification of opportunities for and provision of strategic support to in-country engagement with both global and national foundations in close coordination with UNICEF country and regional offices. Organize thematic roundtables and convening events, with a view to adding UNICEF's voice, expertise and thematic content to the global dialogue on issues affecting children.

3. Leadership engagement with foundation influencers

Support Chief of section in engaging UNICEF's leadership with foundation influencers globally, working closely with Office of the Executive Director and heads of divisions and offices to ensure UNICEF is maximizing opportunities to create connections at the highest levels and to use UNICEF's voice to secure high-impact partnerships with the foundations community.

4. New partnerships

Support efforts to identify, prioritize and engage with prospective foundation partners, with a view to increasing the number and quality of partnerships. This will include developing and executing partner-specific engagement plans, establishing and maintaining information flows with partners and UNICEF offices, and providing or coordinating the necessary proposal development and reporting support to ensure high-level stewardship of these new partnerships. It will also include working collaboratively with internal teams in UNICEF to create new and efficient ways of working that will grow the scale and impact of our work.

5. Existing partnerships

Strengthen, deepen and maintain existing foundation partnerships, including developing and executing partner-specific engagement plans, establishing and maintaining information flows with partners and UNICEF offices, reviewing and assessing existing partnerships, and renewing partnerships and collaborations. This will be done by working in a collaborative way as needed across UNICEF and National Committees to support this work.

6. Knowledge management and capacity building

Support team's knowledge management initiative by capturing and sharing best practice experiences of working effectively with foundation partners, working closely with National Committees, HQ and regional/country office colleagues to increase knowledge of the foundations community and how to engage effectively with foundations and foundation networks. Support the institutionalization and consistent use of key platforms and systems (e.g., UNISON) within the team and among National Committee colleagues to ensure adherence to business rules and timely flow of information.

7. General foundation support and institutional priorities

Respond to UNICEF and National Committee queries on foundation issues, and support coordination with key internal support teams (e.g., Finance, Legal, etc.) to ensure that administrative and grants management issues are resolved efficiently and effectively. Remain informed of key institutional priorities and proactively engage with existing and potential partners and networks around such issues.

8. Performs other duties and responsibilities, which include Business Analysis, Grants Management, Communication, and Coordination. Works in collaborative, open and adaptive ways to respond to changing opportunities and needs.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: international development, public administration, business management, communication, or another relevant field.
  • Alternatively, a first-level University Degree in a relevant field combined with (2) additional years of qualifying professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in a combination of the following: private foundations and/or other public or private grant-making bodies or organizations, partnerships development, programming, communications, and project management is required.
  • Experience in direct relationship cultivation and management of high-value partnerships, with a particular focus on foundations is highly desirable, as is experienced with programmatic, fieldwork, or innovative programmes and partnerships.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and oral.
  • The ability to work independently at a high level and excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF programmes is highly desirable.
  • Experience with UN/UNICEF will be an advantage.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.
