You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agribusiness, Agricultural economics and economics or relevant fields from a recognised university
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in implementing market-based or market systems development and value chain related food security and livelihood project activities within an NGO or development organization
  • Solid experience in value chain
  • Demonstrated experience in use of participatory approaches for value chain intervention, assessment and analysis with community leaders, local authorities, private and market actors and local partners
  • Experience in gender and protection mainstreaming
  • Strong understanding of value chain development, market linkage, local socio-economic development issues
  • Fluency in local and English languages and knowledge of cultural contexts is an advantage
  • Flexibility and ability to manage work stress and to work under high pressure
  • Pro-active and with excellent communication skills both verbal and written

TITLE: Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) Project Officer – Value Chain

TEAM/PROGRAMME: Programme Implementation Department - Food Security & Livelihoods Unit

GRADE: 5

CONTRACT LENGTH: Fixed term

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting the country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The FSL Project Officer – Value Chain will be ensured quality deliver of the food security and livelihoods intervention under FCDO project through value chain and marker systems development approach to reduce livelihoods vulnerability and enhance susttaibaility and resilience capacity of the mots vulnerable households. He/She will be responsible for conducting comprehensive value chain assessments, market studies, and supporting the development and implementation of value chain interventions in targeted communities. The role will focus on improving market linkages, fostering job creation, and enhancing the livelihoods of the target households and communities through both vertical and horizontal integration of value chains.

Role Dimensions: The post holder will establish a good working relationship with rest of Save the Children's livelihood and child protection staff as well as with community members where the project activities are implemented.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

The main areas of accountability and responsibility of this position are, to support the implementation of the Agricultural value chain component under FCDO grant over the target province/s.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the project team in terms of community mobilization and sensitization, beneficiary identification and verification process for early recovery and and resilience intervention along the value chain .
  • Lead stakeholders analysis and village mapping exercises to inform program decision making and delivery process at field level
  • Provide regular technical support to the fronline field team in light of the value chain and agribusiness to ensre quality and standard delivery of the project intervention as per the commitment and compliance of the donor
  • Prepare and produce monthly , quarterly and annual plan of the project in collaboration with the project team
  • Prepare and produce monthly activities progress report including challenges and action taken and share for the line manager for further action as required
  • Conduct quarterly review meeting with the project team to discus the progress , challenges and advise any adjutsments are require considering the changing context.
  • Support preparation of value chain assessment checklist , tools and analysis and recommendation
  • Provide technical guidance and support to frontline field staff and local partners in value chain approaches ,community mobilisation, beneficiary identification and verification, input distribution plan and monitoring and feedback and compliant mechanism
  • Coordinate and support Project Support Committees to participate in decision making and delivery process along the value chain
  • Organise regular meetings with key stakeholders and market actors at community level to provide updates and timely resolve issues.
  • Work with FSL committees and stakeholders to enhance vertical integration, providing capacity-building and training in production, processing, and marketing.
  • Promote horizontal integration by fostering collaboration and coordination among different communities and stakeholders, facilitating joint decision-making and resource sharing.

    Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning

  • Prepare and implement action plan for quality monitoring

  • Mobilizing and Making communities aware of project objectives, outputs and activities and MEAL systems and SCI Child Safeguarding Policies.
  • Facilitate project and activities information at all events such as training and workshops
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of value chain interventions on food security and income generation within the target communities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in agribusiness , Agricultural economics and economics or relevant fields(s) from a recognised university
  • Experience in working with stakeholders, private sectors , market actors , community-based organization and local partners.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • At least 3 years of Demonstrated experience in implementing market -based or market systems development and value chain related food security and livelihood project activities within an NGO or development organization
  • Solid experience in Value chain
  • Demonstrated experience in use of participatory approaches to undertake value chain intervention , assessment and analysis with community leaders, local authorities, private and market actors and local partners
  • Experience in gender and protection mainstreaming
  • Strong understanding of value chain development , market linkage , income generation , local socio-economic development issues, institutions and local contexts for target communities
  • Strong ability to work within team and consult with a wide range of staff colleagues.
  • Flexibility and ability to manage work stress and to work under highly pressure. Able to spend 75% time in the field
  • Pro-active and with excellent communication skills both verbal and written .
  • Fluency in local and Engllish languages and knowledge of cultural contexts is an advantage.
