Organizational Setting
FAO Bangladesh assists the Government to formulate policies, programmes and projects to address the root causes of hunger and malnutrition, develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and utilize environmental and natural resources in a sustainable way. It contributes to the development of FAO’s field programme projects in the country and implements them in the sectors of food security, agriculture and rural development.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) seeks a Fresh Market Trainer to support the Dhaka Food Systems project (DFS). The DFS project seeks to meet the challenge of feeding one of the world’s fastest growing megacities, Dhaka. It works with young people, the private sector, local governments, the national government, and civil society organizations. The DFS project adopts a dynamic and multi-stakeholder approach to sustainability in order to improve access to nutritious food for all of Dhaka’s population, including the poor.
The Dhaka Food System (DFS) project addresses the necessity to provide cities with a sustainable source of food, in a manner that enables the population to access affordable, safe, and nutritious food and thereby to meet the present and future needs of the inhabitants. The project works closely with four city corporations, namely Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Narayanganj, and Gazipur, as well as with the National Government’s Local Government Division, and a range of stakeholders and communities throughout the Greater Dhaka Metropolitan Area. The Fresh Market Trainer will work closely with these stakeholders and communities.
Reporting Lines
The Fresh Market Trainer is a SC 8 position under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in the Bangladesh, works in close collaboration with the National Partnership and Liaison Specialist in FAO Bangladesh but under direct supervision of the Chief Technical Adviser of Dhaka Food Systems.
The incumbent shall, at all times, ensure coherence with FAO’s corporate communication policy and operational guidelines for all communication and information outputs.
Technical Focus
The Fresh Market Trainer will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure continuous engagement with project stakeholders and partners.
Tasks and responsibilities :
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) for the Dhaka Food systems project the Fresh Market Trainer will:
- Build strong collaboration with market associations and Ward-level government officials of selected markets and Wards of Dhaka North CC, Dhaka South CC, Narayanganj CC, and Gazipur CC
- Contribute to the development of training manuals and facilitator training guideline (in English and Bengali) on a range of subjects including food safety, maintenance and operations, effective governance, waste management, and organizational leadership.
- Conduct a stakeholder capacity assessment and market needs assessment of selected markets to understand the context within selected markets of Dhaka North CC, Dhaka South CC, Narayanganj CC, and Gazipur CC
- Conduct multiple trainings and capacity development workshops for fresh market stakeholders and community members
- Assist in preparing the post training reports
- Contribute to evaluating training modules, and where necessary modify and improve them
- Maintain regular follow-up with the groups activity and provide necessary technical support to the groups and resource person;
- Prepare of progress reports on a monthly basis and the preparation of a final report at end of the Consultancy to be submitted to FAO
- Perform other related duties as required
