Additional Information

The trial of the events that took place on September 28, 2009 at the stadium of the same name is a historic event in the Republic of Guinea, in terms of the event itself, the number of victims involved, and the quality of the defendants. The opening of this trial on September 28, 2022 before the Dixinn court, relocated to the Conakry Court of Appeal, is an important milestone that has put an end to twelve years of waiting by victims of serious human rights violations (rape, murder, torture, etc.), their families and beneficiaries, and national and international public opinion in general. In addition, the trial concerns the military authorities who were in power. The President of the CNDD (Captain Moussa Dadis Camara) and other military personnel are among those accused. Over the past twelve years, the United Nations in general and UN-Human Rights in particular have contributed, through a UN International Commission of Inquiry into the events, technical assistance and advocacy, to a firm commitment by the transitional authorities to conduct this trial. The progress of the trial to date has highlighted several problems relating to the victims of the events referred to above. According to the report of the international commission of inquiry, more than 157 people were killed and 109 women were victims of sexual violence. Despite the adoption in September 2022 of a law for the protection of victims and witnesses.
