Under the supervision of the Chief Service Quality Management (SQM), P5 , the Communication Specialist (Internal Communications), P3 supports the GSSC Director and Section Chiefs with all communication requirements both internally within the GSSC, globally to UNICEF staff and externally to members of the public viewing the UNICEF GSSC. This position manages knowledge management for GSSC staff and end-users.

How can you make a difference?

This will involve:

  • Lead the Communication and Knowledge Management team (including supervising three staff members) in the implementation of the GSSC Communication and Knowledge Management Strategy
  • Drive effective UNICEF GSSC Internal and External communication and Knowledge Management: ensure that internal (within the GSSC) and external communication (with other HQ Divisions, UNICEF Offices Worldwide and externally to UNICEF) is effective, relevant, and up to date. This includes:
  • Liaise with GSSC sections for the preparation of External broadcasts (messages targeting all UNICEF staff worldwide or sub-groups)
  • Plan, drive, revise and draft as needed articles on the GSSC external and internal SharePoint site, posts Yammer channels
  • Support the preparation of the 2021 Annual Report (summary narrative) in the first quarter of 2022 for the GSSC
  • Provide advice on communication activities for new projects or initiatives (both UNICEF wide and GSSC specific)
  • Plan, supervise and support the preparation of external and internal communication material (videos, presentations etc.) working closely with the two Communication GS staff
  • Support Knowledge Management activities at the GSSC, in close cooperation with the Knowledge Management Officer
  • Support the organizational change process at the GSSC, by participating at the Change Review Board meetings, crisis management meetings and any other relevant activity.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced university degree in information management, internal communication, social science or a related discipline combined with solid experience of information management and internal communication work.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible and relevant professional experience in the communication area.
  • Solid understanding of the concept of the Digital Workplace and hands-on experience in introducing and creatively promoting the use of related platforms and tools - preferably the Office 365 range of products and SharePoint online - would be a strong asset.
  • Experience in a wide range of UNICEF functions from country office to HQ also a plus.
  • Fluency in English both verbal and written. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
