ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
This job is found in Country Offices (COs)-Dhaka. In COs job holders report to the Head of Supply Chain and Emergency Response Preparedness. Job holder operate with a high degree of independence, may provide technical support to specific food processing initiatives, and are involved in day–to-day activities and analytical work.
JOB PURPOSE
To collect, analyze and report on information relating to food quality and safety and monitor overall Q&Q compliance as a basis for maximizing the efficiency of food technology activities and enhancing food risk assessment and management in country operations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
- Collate and analyse data and contribute to the preparation of reports relating to food quality and safety, to inform risk management and mitigation and contribute to a WFP wide view of food technology activities.
- Prepare evidenced based recommendations for senior staff on control measures to control and mitigate food commodity losses and food quality and safety incidents.
- Prepare evidenced based recommendations for senior staff on tools to enable rapid response to situations with food safety and quality concerns.
- Implement food safety management protocols and in collaboration with other Units support investigation exercises to mitigate, document and enable lessons learned to prevent future incidents.
- Support project teams on food technology aspects of food assistance programs, ensuring compliance with WFP food and safety policy and guidelines.
- Maintain relationships with key institutions and organizations working in the area of food safety and quality.
- Support the development and implementation of an integrated Food Safety and Quality Management System across all operations.
Assist and participate in technical assessments of local production of processed and nutritious foods as required and relevant .
Contribute towards the development and/or implementation of protocols and tools relating to food technology, food safety and quality issues, ensuring alignment with WFP supply chain strategy, policies and plans.
- Establish and maintain collaboration with WFP Regional Bureau and Headquarters’ food safety and quality Units and act as a focal point from country office.
- Develop training tools on food technology issues, food quality control, loss prevention and mitigation, and provide training to WFP staff, local authorities, other stakeholders and food processors
- Identify and build productive relationships with supply chain colleagues and staff within the area of assignment to support an integrated approach to food and nutrition assistance.
- Work with supply chain staff to establish procedures, standards and systems that ensure safety and quality of food commodities throughout the supply chains from sourcing to distribution
- Guide and supervise junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with more complex analysis and queries.
- Follow emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP can quickly respond and deploy food and needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.
- Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.

- Has experience implementing food technology related tools and protocols for the development of new food products.
- Has experience as food safety and quality assurance manager
- Has experience working on food assistance programs development projects.
- Act as a mentor to junior staff.
