Background

Corporate Background UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. In 2010 UNDP launched the Green Commodities Programme (GCP) – currently known as Food and Agricultural Commodity Systems (FACS) - to improve the national economic, social, and environmental performance of agricultural commodity sectors. FACS works within agricultural commodity production in countries of UNDP operation where the programme can have significant impact on the livelihood of farmers and their communities and can protect high conservation value forests and important vulnerable ecosystems.

Internship Office Background Since 2014, the Food & Agricultural Commodity Systems Community fulfils a pivotal learning, connectivity and knowledge management function towards the Food & Agricultural Commodity Systems Practice (FACS), the Good Growth Partnership (GGP), the Food Systems, Land Use and Restoration (FOLUR) Impact Programme led by the World Bank, the SECO Sustainable Landscape Programme (SLPI) and a growing number of other initiatives.

The FACS Community is a safe learning space welcoming global change makers, local leaders and practitioners from international organizations, government, business, and civil society. It offers a range of services to its members that allow them, among other things, to collaborate with their project stakeholders, take part in learning events, receive coaching, access guidance documents, find answers from peers & experts about specific innovative solutions & tools, grow their networks, meet at global in-person & virtual events etc.

Today the Community counts 400+ members from 32 countries working on 10 food and agricultural commodities, and is planning to double its size in the coming years.

Within the Food & Agricultural Commodity Systems Practice (FACS), and under the supervision of the Community Manager, the Community Intern supports all aspects of Community operations and assists the Community Lead, Community Advisors and Community Assistant in delivering key activities:

Actively promoting the Community, its digital platform and membership services to existing and future members, expanding, and growing the membership size, improving the visibility of the Community including all its learning events and ensuring that the platform is up to date.

Duties and Responsibilities

Main tasks: Support to the UNDP Food & Agricultural Commodity Systems Community team in:

- Provide generic support with the back-office of the community digital platform (Hivebrite) and upload content (posts, events, resources, videos, lessons learnt), - Collate Community-related data (events, membership statistics etc.), including presentation in flowcharts, tables, slides, - Support with the maintenance and updating of the Community databases, - Support with the organization of internal & external meetings, calls with existing members, and orientation calls for new members when needed, - Support in preparation of meeting minutes or reports, - Support in delivery of virtual events including technical support with the usage of various videotelephony software programs (e.g. Zoom) and other digital tools (Mural, Miro, Mentimeter, Otter etc.), - Support with video editing and creating content for newsletters/bulletins, - Any other tasks as requested by the Community Lead and Community Advisors.

Required Skills and Experience

Requirements and Qualifications

Education: (a) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor level or equivalent) in a relevant study area, such as environmental management, agriculture, sustainable development, economics, global development, social or political sciences, or any other related field. or (b) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) such as environmental management, agriculture, sustainable development, economics, global development, social or political sciences, or any other related field. or (c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) as environmental management, agriculture, sustainable development, economics, global development, social or political sciences, or any other related field and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience: Knowledge of video conferencing software (e.g. Zoom), online visual collaboration platforms (e.g. MURAL, MIRO), online graphic design platforms (e.g. Adobe, Canva), community management platforms (e.g. Hivebrite); Excellent IT skills including MS Office. Excellent writing and editing skills. Experience in content creation and in graphic design.

Language Requirements: Fluent English and Spanish.

Internship Conditions

(Remote Internship / Home Based).

As of January 1 2020, Interns may be given a stipend according to the UNDP Internship Policies, if is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme.

•UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship; •Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship; •Interns must provide proof of enrolment in Health Insurance Plan valid for the location, and the duration of the internship. •Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity; •Interns are expected to work full time, but flexibility is allowed for education programmes; •UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months; •Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas, arranging travel, accommodation.
