Work Location

This internship is UNPAID, in person, and full-time, on the United Nations premises working arrangement from Geneva, Switzerland.

Expected duration

The duration of the internship is for six (6) months. The desired start date is 01 September 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the Programme Planning and Budget Section (PPBS) within the Financial Resources Management Service (FRMS) of the United Nations Office at Geneva. The internship is under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of the Programme Planning and Budget Section or the internship supervisor, as appropriate. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Assist in testing a newly developed cost planning application and liaising with IT system developers to resolve issues. 2. Assist in developing training materials for the cost planning application and providing guidance to users. 3. Assist in consolidating budget proposals from the various services within the division and loading them into a planning application 4. Assist in collecting and compiling data for budget analysis. 5. Assist in performing research on the evolution of the division’s core mandates and related funding. 6. Assist in preparing outputs, including memos, reports, and other inputs related to the divisions budget. 7. Assist with other ad-hoc duties, as assigned. Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
