THMCO

Thailand Multi-Country Office (THMCO) is a UNOPS business unit under the UNOPS Asia Regional Office and it was established to better support, develop and oversee the UNOPS portfolio of projects in South East Asia and the Pacific. The MCO comprises three main portfolios –THMCO Thailand, THMCO Indonesia and THMCO Pacific Countries and provides a wide range of services including Project Management, Transactional HR, Financial Management, and Procurement Management to clients that include other UN entities, INGOs, governments/government agencies, and donors.

Functional Responsibilities

At UNOPS, interns join our teams as equal members and are offered a good mix of support work and independent assignments with substantial responsibility. Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Finance Associate under the THMCO Support Services Unit (SSU) and the general guidance of the Head of Support Services, the Finance Intern will provide financial and administrative support which may include the following: 1. Oversight, compliance and reporting - Support in extracting, compiling and analyzing of data related to oversight, compliance and reporting - Support in preparing financial and analytical reports on the performance of the MCO - Assist in monitoring and reporting on compliance with local SOPs and UNOPS rules, regulations, policies, procedures, etc - Run review procedures to detect unusual activity; review processes, templates and procedures, including those associated with monitoring and evaluation - Conduct thorough spot checks and appropriate exercises that ensure that relevant processes, procedures and supporting documents are exhaustive and consistent - Prepare and submit periodic reports on issues and any material deficiencies identified during the review period - Support in tracking and periodically reporting on the status of implementation of recommendations resulting from internal/external audits - Liaise with the SSU leadership on the information gathering for tracking and reporting on the SSU KPI quarterly report

2. Management and Budgetary support - Support in the annual budgetary information gathering for admin budgets preparation and for annual business planning (annual target and budget setting) - Assist in the annual entry of budget details in ERP - Support in extracting, compiling and analyzing of data related to the management of Administrative projects (Locally Management Direct Cost and Management Expense budgets) - Provide support in conducting analyses and preparing supporting documentation for the revisions of Admin projects - Assist in following up on implementation of various initiatives and action points arising from various fora including SSU all staff meetings, Review exercises, etc.

3. Knowledge building and Knowledge sharing Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing, focusing on achievement of

  • Training of colleagues upon requests from portfolio managers, the supervisor and other finance officers in setting projects, budget revisions, troubleshooting and understanding of the processes on day to day financial transactions, reporting and other related tasks
  • Synthesis of lessons learnt and best practices in Finance.
  • Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

  • Must be enrolled in a university programme such as Bachelor’s, Master's or Ph.D. (or the equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the application date of the internship.
  • Minimum relevant first university degree (bachelor’s or equivalent) in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration/ Management or related specialization.
  • Relevant certification in financial management or accounting a distinct advantage.

Experience:

  • While no professional experience is required for an internship, some professional experience within the areas of audit, finance, accounting, business administration or related fields is desirable.
  • Experience in financial analysis and/or reporting is an asset.
  • Experience in budget preparation and/or budget validation is an asset.
  • Proficiency in data processing using MS Excel/Google sheets is a critical success factor.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required.

Contract type, level and duration - Internship

Contract type: Internship Contract level: N/A Contract duration: 6 months with possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
