Overview

Support the Galkayo Finance Unit in day-to-day financial operations.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution (final-year students may also apply).
  • 6 months previous experience (Internship, part-time role, university attachment, or volunteer experience in finance or administration is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of accounting and finance principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word required, PowerPoint preferred).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn, take initiative, and adapt in a dynamic work environment.

About the job

The Finance Intern supports the Galkayo Finance Unit in day-to-day financial operations, ensuring timely, compliant, and well-documented financial processes. The internship role targets female graduates with some prior practical experience who are seeking to further strengthen their financial and professional skills in an international humanitarian environment.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

1. Payment Processing Support

  • Assist in reviewing payment requests and verifying completeness of supporting documents.
  • Prepare payment vouchers and ensure proper documentation is attached.
  • Support in obtaining required signatures and approvals for payments.
  • Track submitted payment requests and follow up on pending actions.

2. Cash and Bank Management

  • Assist in daily cash count and reconciliation under supervision of Finance staff.
  • Update the cashbook and maintain accurate petty cash records.
  • Verify cash disbursement forms and receipts.

3. Financial Documentation and Filing

  • Scan, label, and archive financial documents following DRC filing standards.
  • Maintain accurate and organized physical and electronic financial records.
  • Support preparation of monthly finance files for review and audit readiness.

4. Data Entry and Reporting

  • Enter financial data into DRC’s accounting system (e.g., Dynamics).
  • Support preparation of monthly reconciliations and supporting documents.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for internal and external audits.

5. Advance and Liquidation Tracking

  • Support tracking of staff advances and follow up on outstanding liquidations.
  • Review liquidation submissions for accuracy and completeness.

6. General Finance Support

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the Finance team.
  • Assist with printing, photocopying, scanning, and organizing financial reports.
  • Perform other finance-related tasks as assigned by the Finance Specialist.

7. Self-Learning and Professional Development

  • Engage actively in on-the-job learning, including hands-on practice with DRC financial tools and systems.
  • Receive structured mentorship and regular coaching from the Finance Specialist and/or Finance Officer.
  • Participate in internal capacity-building sessions, remote learning modules, and cross-departmental exposure to build broader operational and professional competencies.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for

employees on national contract.
