Job Description

Job Overview: The IRC in Des Moines seeks a Finance Coordinator to joining its growing staff of professionals working every day to support refugees and other immigrants in the Des Moines metro area. As a member of the Finance team, the Finance Coordinator is responsible for essential accounting functions related to accounts payable and accounts receivable, monthly tasks and closing assistance, and various reports to donors and HQ.

Major Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Ensure office and donor compliance with IRC’s accounting policies vis-à-vis fund accounting as noted in IRC’s finance manual and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and donor requirements. - Ensure timely submission of high-quality finance reports, working closely with management, programs, and finance teams. - Maintain a broad and deep understanding of donor policies, regulations, and procedures. Support efforts to train program team members and build working knowledge of finance policies and practices that intersect with their roles. - Support day-to-day financial activities, including tasks such as payment request review, AP activities, AR reporting/invoicing, etc. - Produce data in response to direct service teams needing real-time reports on team / grant spending. - Review draft budgets for funding proposals. - Assist the Finance Manager with setting a monthly cycle of team production activities, to produce regularly repeating deliverables for month close, monthly financial review meetings, annual budget production and annual spending reports. - Submit budgets into Integra for all existing grants, and update grant budgets in Integra every time the award amount changes. - Review all accounting transactions to ensure proper coding, complete month-end/year-end closing tasks, and conduct variance analysis as needed. Prepare & transmit monthly billing invoices and track whether incoming payments match invoicing. - Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: - Formal accounting or bookkeeping training and/or coursework required; 4-year degree in related field strongly preferred. - 1 + years professional work experience with accounting and bookkeeping procedures and standards. - Previous non-profit agency/grant-funded environment experience strongly preferred. High degree of professional integrity; ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data. - Solid organizational skills: detail-oriented, ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently, be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced team environment. - Excellent communication, analysis and negotiation skill, availability to work with a variety of stakeholders. - Prior knowledge of donor regulations preferred, particularly OMB regulations pertaining to federal and state grants and contracts. - Good interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment. - Solid computer skills required, including high proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; proficiency with PowerBI and familiarity with finance-related software systems proficiency strongly preferred - Demonstrated Skills & Competencies: - Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships. - Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment. - Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively. - Superb organization, planning, and logistical skills. - Attention to detail and accuracy in work product. - Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Working Environment: A combination of standard office environment and remote work. Requires periodic weekend and/or evening work.
