How can you make a difference?

The Finance Assistant will be responsible for providing a variety of moderately specialized accounting and finance-related tasks in accordance with UNICEF financial rules and regulations, while demonstrating the capacity to research, adapt, and evaluate irregular cases and to recommend improvements to process delivery and design

The Finance Assistant works in close collaboration with the operations, programme and projects’ staff in the Country Office (CO) and with UN HQs staff to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Finance Officer, the Finance Assistant will be responsible for:

  1. Receives donations and payments from all sources, including the intact deposit of the same.
  2. Safeguards and keeps undeposited collections and post-dated cheques in the office vault, including all accountable forms.
  3. Performs all activities in preparation of the monthly bank reconciliation.
  4. Validates all payment transactions against inconsistencies or discrepancies.
  5. Reviews invoices and takes action to initiate the payment process.
  6. Takes action to update records with the house banks.
  7. Reviews and approves refunds in VISION, UNICEF’s System Application Platform (SAP).
  8. Manages and maintains financial records in accordance with UNICEF’s retention policy.
  9. Liaises with the house banks to verify data and obtain additional information on accounts and financial requirements.
  10. Performs other tasks and duties as may be required.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Completion of secondary education is required. Professional and/or university courses in finance, accounting, business administration or other relevant academic discipline are highly desirable. A university degree is most preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in finance and accounting work, which includes cash handling and responsible administrative work.
  • Hands-on experience in SAP financial modules preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in office software packages and web-based management systems highly desirable
  • Experience in the UN system agency or organization is preferred
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Filipino required.
