Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations. DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 650 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Finance Assistant (Accountent) which will become part of our great and effective team.

About the job

The Finance Assistant (Accountant) plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and compliant operation of DRC's finance functions. This position provides support for the day-to-day functioning of the DRC Kharkiv office, supports from accountancy side the implementation of DRC programs in the area of responsibility. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Responsibilities:

  • Checking DRC Program activities related documents for compliance with Ukrainian legislation.
  • Checks, calculation and processing the payments of business trips for DRC staff, maintenance of advances to employees.
  • Control of the authenticity of the necessary documents for processing the payments.
  • Conducting banking transactions.
  • Receiving inbound documentation for accounting processing (applications for payment, contracts).
  • Control over the availability of DRC’s Supplier related documentation in accordance with payments, keeping the registrar updated.
  • Preparation of acts of performed work/acceptance in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Produces calculation and transfer of taxes and fees, insuring contributions to state extra-budgetary social funds, payments to banking institutions, wages of employees and other payments.
  • Accounting of property, liabilities (accounting for fixed assets, inventory, etc.).
  • Maintaining, entering and updating “1C”/”BAF” software, makes changes to the reference and regulatory information used in the processing of data.
  • Participation in drafting of contracts with counterparties.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to:

  • Proven work experience of at least 2 years in finance or accountancy, preferably in a humanitarian or development organization.
  • Knowledge of the legislation on accounting and tax accounting.
  • Knowledge of the procedure for maintaining documents for business trips, checking up-to-date reports
  • Act as a focal point for program units as to program related documentation (grants, agreements, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work together in a multicultural environment.
  • Good working skills with MS Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency in Ukrainian or Russian, both written and spoken.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Desirable:

  • Ability to work with ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian regulations, including donor requirements.
  • Commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies and procedures.
  • Basic or higher level of English language will be a preference.

Education

Bachelor's or master degree in economics, finance, accountancy, business administration or related field.

We offer:

Contract duration: Open-ended contract upon successful completion of the three-month probation period
