Result of Service
The IC will act under the direct supervision of Administrative Officer, Energy and Climate Branch, Climate Change Division and deliver the following outputs:
- Effectively delivers a wide range of financial support functions for the UNEP CCC under moderate supervision.
- Accurately and in a timely manner, produces a range of financial reports and other outputs.
- Appropriately applies relevant policies, guidelines, procedures and processes.
- Establishes effective working relationships within UNEP CCC and internal and external contacts at all levels.

Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Energy and Climate Branch (ECB), located within the Climate Change Division, supports developing countries to improve energy efficiency and increase use of renewable energy as part of their efforts to achieve low-carbon and climate-resilient development pathways. It does so by providing guidance on sound policy, technology, and investment choices, and by facilitating knowledge generation and sharing, capacity building, peer learning and through technical assistance to developing countries.
This position is in the Energy and Climate Branch of the Climate Change Division, supporting UNEP CCC based in Copenhagen. The Individual Contractor (IC) will be responsible for supporting the Chief of Administrative and the Administrative Team with a wide range of financial support and administrative functions as outlined below:
Budget and Finance • Preparation of budgets and work packages. • Analysing data, monitoring status of expenditures and allotments, recording variations, updating budget tables. • Preparing donor reports and internal reporting to UNEP. • Preparing financial overviews for the Chief, providing analysis for early risk identification and decision. • Reviews status of relevant expenditures and compares with approved budget. • Assist the Chief of Admin with reviewing legal agreements. • Reviews requisitions for goods and services to ensure (a) correct objects of expenditure have been charged and (b) availability of funds. • Assists in the preparation of budget performance submissions.
Qualifications/special skills
• Bachelor’s degree in administration and finance. • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in financial administration is required. • Experience in finance and budgeting is required. • Experience in preparing budgets, analyzing vast amounts of data, document preparation, coordination and reporting for development projects funded by international donor agencies is highly preferred. • Knowledge of the UN system rules and regulations is an asset. • Experience working with international organizations and/or government counterparts is an asset.
Skills and Competencies: • High proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.). • Great teamwork, analytical skills, planning and budgeting ability, attention to detail and problem-solving skills. • Excellent written and oral communications • Ability to manage information objectively, accurately and confidentially. • Ability to work well under pressure, with flexibility and adaptability amidst evolving circumstances. • Ability to identify and execute tasks independently with thoroughness and care. • Ability to thrive with multicultural teams
Languages
• Fluency in English is required, knowledge of Danish is an asset.
