Our mandate is grounded and fully aligned with the 1994 Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

UNFPA joins hands with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania to realize its development goals as set out in Vision 2025 – guided by the Third Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP III), 2021/22-2025/26 – that is characterized by high-quality livelihoods, good governance, a well-educated and learning society, and a competitive economy capable of sustainable growth and shared benefits in support of the realization of the Sustainable Development Agenda by 2030.

UNFPA, in support of this vision, is committed to assisting the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania in crucial areas and to promoting essential drivers of development to facilitate the achievement of national and global development goals. The incumbent will ensure an efficient and effective functioning of the finance records systems to support programme and office management, and contribute to build a strong country office knowledge base.

Under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Representative and direct supervision of the Operations Manager/Finance analyst, The UN Volunteer will perform the following functions:

Assist with Value Added Tax (VAT) claim management (Account 14056):

• Compile matrices of all payments made with VAT; • Prepares Tax Invoices originals and copies and any other related supporting documents as required by TRA; • Prepare letters for TRA VAT claim submission; • Consolidate all the required documents for final submission as required by TRA; • Follows up on VAT refunds and communicate accordingly; • Prepare VAT reconciliations (GL versus what is expected from TRA).

Supports financial documents custodianship:

• File payment vouchers, purchase orders and related supporting documents; • File Travel expenses claims/F-10 both hard copies and soft copies; • Support preparation of supporting documents during Audits, if any.

Assist online filling management- Aodocs & iDocs:

• Upload new Aodocs payment requests when required; • Review the Aodocs request and input necessary payment information (i.e Requisition, Purchase Order and Voucher details); • Ensure all payment vouchers are filed through Aodocs; • Reconcile the Aodocs uploads Versus Quantum Voucher payments; • Ensure all operations documents are uploaded in Aodocs; • Ensure documents are properly categorized (i.e Finance, Admin, Asset, Procurement, ICT etc); • Ensure operations files are updated on a regular basis.

Support office supplies and stationery management:

• Issue stationery as requested; • Reports on the status of stationery for replenishment; • Check and replace printer and photocopier toners/cartridge as required; • Reports on the status of cartridge for replacement.

Finance with international organizations, or the UN. Work experience with UNFPA is an added advantage;
• Ability to work under pressure and against tight deadlines; • Results-oriented with strong organizational and work management skills; • Good communication, analytical, oral and report writing skills; • Proficiency in current Microsoft Office Software Applications and corporate IT systems. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ERP, DocuSign, AoDOCs, iDocs, etc.)

Tanzania has an area of 947,300 sq. km and is located in eastern Africa on the Indian Ocean. It shares its longest borders with Kenya (to the northeast) and Mozambique (to the southeast), but also borders Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia. To the east, Tanzania is bordered by the Indian Ocean. Three of Africa’s largest lakes also border sections of the country: Lake Victoria in the north, Lake Tanganyika in the west, and Lake Nyasa in the southwest.

Tanzania is made up of three geographical regions: the islands and coastal plains in the east, a saucer-shaped plateau in the centre and west, and the highlands in the northeast. Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa standing at 5,895m, lies in these north-eastern highlands. Another special geographical feature is the Great Rift Valley, which cuts through the centre of the country. Tanzania’s climate varies from tropical in the coastal areas to temperate in the highlands. In the coastal plains and plateau regions, temperatures range from 25-31°C during the hottest months (November - February) and 15-20°C in the coldest months (May - August). Temperatures in the highlands range between 10-20°C.

There are about 55.5 million people living in Tanzania with 51% female population. The population is particularly concentrated in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar City and their metro areas. Despite these urban centres, just under 70% of the people living in Tanzania still reside in rural areas. Dar es Salaam is the largest city in Tanzania, as the major port and economic centre. Dar es Salaam is situated on the coast, overlooking the Indian Ocean. It is an international and multicultural city with a mix of religions. There is a wide range of facilities available, including numerous shopping centres, movie theatres, restaurants and many new developments planned. The living conditions in Dar es Salaam are comfortable although pricey in certain neighbourhoods and there are issues with poor infrastructure, so alternative back-up solutions and generators, as well as water tanks, are common. It is a beautiful and safe location. There are good international education facilities and health facilities with good standards.

Ministries and, Government offices are currently based in the capital city, Dodoma. Embassies and main UN Offices are based in Dar es Salaam.Tanzania is one of the most diverse countries in Africa. On the mainland, around 99% of the population is ethnically African, coming from over 120 different tribes, almost all of them Bantu. On Zanzibar, the people are of Arab, African, or mixed Arab and African descent. Kiswahili (Swahili) and English are both official languages. Kiswahili is the lingua franca of central and eastern Africa and the country’s unifying language. Most people living in Tanzania speak one of the 158 local languages as their first language. Arabic is widely spoken on Zanzibar. English is the primary language of business, government administration, and higher education.
